Very nice. Makes me want to take the ones I carved out of Oak and toss them.

The bummer about the flaming River switch, is that you have to run your primary mag hot wire the length of the car. Not a very good deal. Over time, the chances of it getting rubbed raw and leaving your mag dead are too great in my opinion.

Using a relay is what I suggest. When you cut the power to the car, the relay relaxes and grounds the mag.

Just be sure to use one that is impervious to vibration and can handle the voltage and current. We offer this one:

It's really two separate relays in one unit. You can double up and use both sides together to double it's capacity, leave the other side for a spare, or kill two mags with it.

I wish I had pics, but I mounted my flaming river relay under the cowl and the master disconnect where the stock fuel pump would have gone.  Ran a morse cable from the chute pack to the master.  Very little wiring that way.

Parks makes some very cool stuff.  His theory is that if they use enough super light parts they can add the weight back in where it does the most good.  Remember they also run small displacment motors and spin the xxxx out of them, so in a class where it is lbs per ci weight is a big deal.
I was in his shop when they were taking apart a pair of rear wheels and replacing the bolts with titanium.  And they do win alot.

Revco, Texas is a big place.  Where are you?
I have a couple spare sets and one set has a broken spoke or two and I would let it go cheap.  I am in Amarillo but find myself traveling for work.
PM sent.

Drag Racing / Re: New NHRA track 1000 ft.!!!!!!!

I am an old stick in the mud traditional 1/4 mile guy.  However... with the demise of so many tracks around the country I am thrilled that someone is trying to build a new one.  I have raced on some real sketchy west Texas tracks that did not have enough shut down to run a fast car 1/4 safely.  If we have to go to 1000 to keep running I say bring em on.  If that is the new business model to make the insurance folks happy I am game.

I bet Rooman will jump in with the correct answer, but I think part of it has to do with what chassis cert you are looking for.
If I am not mistaken you can cert a 7.50 car with powder coat, but not TF and I doubt advanced ET.  I will dig up my book and look
Not sure about chrome on any part of the driver cockpit part.

Not trying to pee, but I do not see an advantage to the rack and pinion? As said earlier you can change the ratio on either set up and the box is certainly more traditional.  You would have to do some real fab work to get the shaft and ujoints arounf the motor and back in line wouldn't you?

Hello all.
My dame is David Wells, but some of you already know me as H.G. Wells a nickname I picked up while working my way thru school as a mechanic.
Now pushing 50 I learned to wrench as a kid on my older brothers stuff and ended up with a FED after too many street racing incidents and while working for a fuel distributor in OKC selling racing fuel.  While there I arranged sponsorship for several teams from motorcross and dragboats to one JR Fuel car.  I spent a lot of time with that team and endud up building my own JR fuel car back when an 8.50 may get you into the field and everyone was racing for second when Frank and Scott Parks showed up.
I knew I could not spend the money to keep up with that group and instead did just some nostalgia racing untill my move to Amarillo TX.  While looking for a new trailer I ended up with an early 70's RED and a nice BBC stroker motor.  I had a hard time running a car on my own and recruited some help in a young man named Chris Daniel. My thought was he would be my crew, but soon found he could cut a light and weighed 60 pounds less than I did so he became the driver. Then we got stupid and hung an 8:71 on this BBC and stuffed it in my FED and tried to play with a 7.60 index bunch.  While running at a neat little airport/dragstrip in Lubbock TX the car was bent badly in an altercation with a car crossing into our lane.  Todays thought is to front half that chassis and put it back into service, but I know I would be better off building new pipe and not piecing the old stuff back together.  So we are putting the big motor back in the RED but without the huffer just to stay out there and do a little bracket racing.

So I am glad to be here and learn more, and want to thank Spud (who set up my fuel system and will do my next) and Rooman (who does not know me but has given me great tips over the years as well as helping my driver Chris with his CAD design for our next car) for funding this site.
