Wanted to sell / motec m84
« on: November 01, 2016, 10:12:34 PM »
trying to sell a few parts to fun the FED project.   selling Motec M84 fully unlocked. single wideband and advanced functions. comes with the UTC. unit sales new as listed for $2330.00 plus the UTC which new is $369.00... so $1800.00 is a steal (almost 1,000.00 off).

if your interested ill give you the serial number so you can call motec and check on it.

you might know someone that wants a top of the line efi unit for thier car.  i had it on a 4 cylinder engine and the guy i got it from used it on his drag bike.   1800 is a smoken deal with the UTC and fully unlocked.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: turbo in fed

stop by my buddies shop today to bs.  him and Gene have become good freinds over the last few years. Gene helps him with is nitro vw fed.   anyways i showed him the pic above and he told me a little about it.  as mentioned the motor is still at Hilborn.  i seen writing on the pictures Steve had, the one above and this one below.  made 1200 hp on 28lbs.     concerning the burnout, from way it sounded they had crappy burnouts. as mentioned previously no way to build boost on the burnout for them.  so, in this picture he said the brake was held and clutch slipped till it built up enough boost or some boost and then let er rip.  thats why a xxxxx shot.

here is pic of it on the dyno.

were there any nostalgia teams that tried to run a turbo back in the day?   if yes, would it be legal now days in say NE1 or 7.0 pro?

i have everything from my old car that was turbo, wastegates, bov, tb, turbo, pump, filters,  etc.  was just thinking if i could use it and be legal.

Drag Racing / race day routine
« on: September 28, 2016, 08:02:21 PM »
what is your race day routine.   referring to after you unload the car.. i take you put it on stands, warm up?  how long?  cycle trans etc.  do you want to get the heads to certain temp, oil?  does it matter which.  what else do you check or do prior to pulling up to lanes.

Drag Racing / Re: starter recommendation
« on: September 17, 2016, 07:49:35 PM »
can you guys help educate me a little on flexplates.   only dealt with vw's and have never built a v8.  so, on summit searching for starters its asking for flex plate teeth.   is that totally arbitrary with whatever you want to use to some extent?  i get down to 168, 153, 139 teeth.  is there that much adjustment with the starter to accommodate all those teeth options?

i have changed starters on a few cars in the past that i have had.  you just tell them year, motor, etc and you just final shim accordingly.  so, say for BBC there are those many options?  i can only imagine the 139 teeth is prob 1" smaller OD ?

motor is looking like its going to be a merlin or dart block 509 or 540 depending on what crank is used.

btw, if you anyone needs info about aircooled vw just let me know hahaha..

Drag Racing / mouth guards
« on: September 17, 2016, 10:27:40 AM »
should a mouth guard be a consideration in case of tire shake or not a bid deal the teeth/head getting rattled a bit?   does it get severe enough to need one?

i should of put more thought into this before posting.  quartermax sells two load cells. just need to get 0-5 3k or 5k sensor and wire it in.  simple deal.

Drag Racing / Re: Burnout
« on: September 10, 2016, 09:13:50 PM »
Never raced against a Powerglide transmission handbook before.

thanks for the humor if thats what it is....  i'd figure the keyboard would be to easy so i thought i would try reading a book;  it even has pictures which right my ally.   Nevertheless, this is all new to me and even though i just did turn 54 i still thought it to be a valid question. im trying to read, ask questions and learn and obviously there are others in the same boat.

i had no idea on burning out in high gear either.  i know on my trans in the bug, we would do 3rd and 4th gear b/o and also would not burnout till it grabbed for similar reasons (bad for the gear or hub).

Quote
Another thing I have used is when the track is HOT, like over 130°, make shorter B-O, & I have him back-up next to the B-O tracks, the track is already too hot. Which means I line-up the B-O off center of the grove.

50/50 or completely adjacent to b/o track?

concerning testing the transbrake, before staging, just put it on the brake i take it and hit the limiter?

what would be the desired engine temp range.  how long does it usually take your motor to build temp.   if you are sitting in the lanes for some time, do you still wait to roll out of the stage lanes and then light it up or would you light it up in the lanes say a car ahead?    i can see on a nitro car waiting till the last second as if they had to shut down they would be screwed..

everyones responses are helpful, ty for the input.
