I thought some of you FED and altered guys might want to know that Milan Dragway (MI) is having their Nostalgia Drags on Sept 22,23,&24. They have a Nost/Comp class for us run on half-second indices. See you there in my "Last Logghe" altered.

I am today's Milan Dragway Nostalgia Comp Eliminator champ. This year it was a three day event with separate races on Saturday and today. My buddy Dan Snyder (552 ci Ford powered '23T altered) won yesterday's race and me today in my 305 Ford six. In the final round I had to run a FED (8.50 index) on my 10.50 index in the Last Logghe altered. He ran 8.52 to my 10.52 with a m.o.v. of .016. For me it was a pedal fest all weekend as my altered was capable of running under my chosen index. What fun!

FTF – enjoyed seeing your picture. Made me smile to see a Ford 300 six in winner’s circle. Those multi-day events much better than single day races. Usually attracts more racers, which means more competition, more stories and agree, more fun. Alan

I have been running this index class for three years now.
It has been a real challenge; first - to get a good reaction time on a .400 pro tree, and second - to run right on my 10.50 index. This task has been harder since I am usually the slowest car to show up. All the other diggers and altereds have V8s and I have to look back over my shoulder at the oncoming faster car to gage the stripe. Not good.
What I finally decided to do was ignore the other car completely at the top end. Rather I have worked on perfecting what I like to call "landmark racing". That is to say, pick a landmark on the track - a crack in the pavement, a guardrail post, a vehicle or pop-up parked along the fence, and lift at that point. This requires a lot of discipline to not try to get back on it at the stripe. In the video at the in-car pass notice the bell crank on the throttle linkage, as it goes from WOT to full closed about 200 feet before the lights.
Works for me. Your results may vary.

FTF - enjoyed seeing your video. Appreciate your sharing secret “landmark timing tip” good one! Much easier than trying to watch a lively tach. I'm guessing you run same gear ratio in both race cars. Alan

Actually I am running a 4.56 in the Orange Logghe car and 4.30 gears on the blue S/P car, which, logically speaking, is entirely backwards, since most tracks now run the Super Pro class as an eighth mile race. The S/P car needs a 4.56 gear and the Nost Comp Logghe could be slowed down with a 4.30. I've never had the two jacked up side-by-side to make the pumpkin switch and I have enough other work to dissuade me from doing it.
