Title: #6 line how much return
Post by: wideopen231 on March 13, 2017, 06:24:59 AM
Working on TA/D this weekend and trying to get bse tune.SysteM to BOUT 13.5m calculates out to about 13.5 to motor.Should be little rich.According to plugs(autolitesnot mu favorite) its pig fat.If data system would work i would have backup.Car has 20.4 gpm pump, too big IMO. question is 7 gpm too much return for #6 line?Thinking that maybe one of many issues.

Is the orface in the return jet larger than the ID of the -6 hose/line??
My motor combo, can either run a 80A 6.5gpm @ .072 main or a 110 13gpm @ .130 main uses the same -6 return line and runs clean

one 130 would not bother me.A 130 main ,80 and 90 hi spd all added together has me wondering.Think I will be adding another return or #8 return.

Are your sure the blower is good?

Calculate the areas of the 3 "pills" vs the area of a -6 hose (.375)

Total area of the three jets is 0.02466156 in2. Area of the #6 hose is 0.11044 in2.

If it is a roots blown deal, make sure the rotors are not swapped. I've seen that happen before.

If blower was good it would be a screw blower. It was just restripped,so should be good. Key word should.Area of hose not biggest concern.Area of fittings  is.   Smallest opening is your biggest thing.  Area should be ok,but marginal.  Going to do some replumbing.  When in doubt rip it out.Has cpl 90* fittings which I would rather not have.

Right now reworking clutch has taken top priority.Dang fingers are not even set equal.Man following behind others mess ups is ten times the work. Not to mention almost impossible to tune.

Don't know any specifics about that motor but I agree with you...generally 13.5 GPM at 4000 (pump) speed should be a bit rich for a roots blown combo. Is it a 14-71 hi helix? If so, it should still haul butt with 13.5 in it. Sounds like you may have to go through everything. I've seen two guys with the rotors swapped (both after restrips) and they will run rich and are down on power. Check and make sure that the rotor helix follows/matches the pie shaped opening on the bottom of the blower case. Is the ignition okay? How much timing in it?
For reference, my old TAD combo was 438 KB Hemi, Veney heads, R-296, 11.8/1, 14-71 hi helix, 46% over, 12 GPM at 4000, Super Mag 4 and 38 degrees of lead. Would go 5s at 230 down a dirt road. Good luck!

You could put -10 return lines and would not solve your issues. The only pressure the return sees is at the inlet side of the pill after that its nothing, and just flow back to the tank. Fuel is not backing up in the return system  causing a rich condition.

didn't mean to imply it was main problem just possible issue. When it doubt its easier to take it out and replace.. I am just part time help on tune. Makes it ten time harder. I'm use to hands on all parts and control of basic setup. It is what it is.

Coupemerc. My old TA/FC combo was close to yours.526 ci,12.5:1, 13 gpm,14-71@54% and mag 12.TA/D combo was same except Real blower with whipple at 54%.Took FC system flipped #2 to #7.With rich system and a thrown at it clutch setup it would go 5.70's.Once you go screw blower you will cuss those old hi helix things. Yes this combo has hi helix.Biggest thing I hate is incosistent part of roots style blower.Just so much easier when you eliminate parts that change around on you.
