Title: Ran our first seven!
Post by: Dunc the Funk on September 17, 2019, 01:58:21 PM: Team Thundergod just had a crazy weekend. On Friday the car wouild not start at all (see previous threads re poor starting). Eventually we realised it could only be the fuel pump so we borrowed one & it fired up right away. Ran it but it was so fat because the pump was delivering way more fuel that we only did a couple of 9 second passes. I finally got the tune more or less back on track & we went 7.98 @ 169. Still way rich! We were hoping for a better final pass as I had leaned it a bit more but I made a mistake by filling the tank to the brim with the system still full of fuel, then leaving it in the hot sun for half an hour. Fuel must have pushed into the cylinders, it would barely turn over let alone fire & we missed our chance.

Post by: dreracecar on September 17, 2019, 03:44:43 PM: Before starting any engine, you insert a long handle ratchet into the hub bolted to the top pulley and rotate the pulley counter clockwise to back the motor down and clear any fuel that happens to leak into the cylinders, By not doing so , one runs the risk of hydrolicing the cyl and bending the rod or even worse

Post by: Dunc the Funk on September 18, 2019, 02:39:07 PM: Nothing wrong with the tank breather in it's normal function letting air in, but it has a rollover valve that pressure inside will hold shut - just as if it were upside down.

Backing it down sounds like a good idea.

Post by: Paul New on September 18, 2019, 10:34:13 PM: I had a roll over valve on my car for a while had to leave the fuel cap loose until I was buckled in or it would pressurize my fuel tank. I changed it out when I front halved my car

Post by: THE FRENCHTOWN FLYER on September 24, 2019, 05:44:00 AM: Nice video. An interesting mix of blown race cars. Are most based on U.S. sourced powerplants? I wonder how many U.S. racers would field hot cars if we had to rely on foreign powerplants?
And I also like the wind turbine in the shutdown area. Haven't seen that at the strips I run at.

Post by: Dunc the Funk on September 25, 2019, 02:50:31 PM: Most cars run BBCs. One or two Hemis & at least one SBC. I'd like to run a BBF to mess with people's heads but it's a chevy I've got.
