Title: durometer reading on tires
Post by: wideopen231 on April 05, 2020, 12:53:23 PM
Was just checking tires on car to see if any change in durometer reading. Got me wondering what reading on other brands are.My M/T are 50 average reading and fairly new run wise. I know few have said they had problem getting wheel speed with Mickeys.Thinking maybe harder compound works better for some.

Anyone who check durometer reading on tires from time to time .Please chime in with info on whats working or not working for you.

I have used a durometer when I 1'st started racing JF but that was because we were using a tire softener treatment , which we have not used in about 16 years since the tracks are doing a better job of track prep, more VHT and track dragging . Also slick suppiers don't offer much options of compounds, unless you go to another size tire. I think my durometer reading were hig 40's -low 50's.
I can check my current tires if that will help you.

Just looking for comparisons and how many runs or time before change and what effect a little change might or might not make. Mine run low 50's most all the way across new and keeping record on changes. Never too much info,if you know how to use it and don't screw yourself.

My GY guy has suggested replacing the tires when the 60' times change with no combination change , when I asked how many runs or what age I should change to new.

No combination change? Now that I am trying to focus on bracket racing I know most don't change much. I figure to still test ideas for better performance, but following the rule on one at a time .If don't work change back should be no issue.

My question is how many times do folks like Jon make ten passes w/o some kind of change in tune up?
