I am running a sbc on e98 I have a water neck on top of the intake and was considering blocking off the water pump holes should I run a recovery tank for expansion?
-
Isn't one required?
Nevertheless, I'd add one.

I have seen allot of people that don't run one with no radiator. I would think you would want one for the expansion but have seen do many without so I wasn't sure.

I’ve raced with guys who use a -6 poppet with like a 6lb spring and it is piped into a zoomie so when it expands he gets a light smoke out of one of his pipes

I ran a radiator cap housing off the the old water neck location.(cadillac 500) i used a a 32psi radiator cap because I get paranoid about cracking cylinder heads without a water pump. I later found corrosion issues because I didn't drain the water between races (using water wetter) so I went to a 15psi "rad cap" and drained the water between races if it was going to sit for a while. but to answer your question, yes. I ran a puke bottle. the thermostat housings come drilled 1/8npt so I ran a small pushlok 3/16"? pneumatic line all the way to the back of the car by the parachute where it mounted with a breather so if i overflowed it the water would be behind me. but since it was mounted above the motor it would suck the water back in as it cooled. rarely had to add water unless I got it really warm.
