Title: Small amount of nitro or m5
Post by: masracingtd1167 on April 01, 2013, 01:53:13 PM
Hi Spud I am not shure if this would work for me or not . If I wanted to pick my car up a little let's just say 3 tenth's do you think going to m5 methanol or 20 pecent nitro would do it . The only problem I see is my compression is 14.8 . I do run  pretty big cam 280 Int 294 Ex 114 CL I run a pair of Ron's terminators on a sheetmetal intake a 0and a half pump 37 nozzle 88 main jet no high speed The way the car sit's right now it will go high 7.40's and that's with a tight 6400 converter and 1560 lbs . I have sprayed it with a 200 shot of nitrous and gone 6.94 . I would like to be able to run the 7.0 pro class but you can't run nitrous . Also if I took all the nitrous stuff off it would be about 60 lbs lighter Thank's Bill

I've run 18% in a 528 Mopar with iron 440-1 heads and that much compression.  Car loved it, #3 quench area of the head, not so much, blew out a 2.5" x 1.5" piece of the head.  But, I think it was a thin area and was destended to fail anyway.

Hi Bill,

I don't think 20% is going to get you 3 tenths. Probably take 30% or a little more and you would definitely have problems with that much compression ratio. Heads, head gaskets, bearings...

Lower that squeeze and I think you'd do great by putting more juice in it. Swap out those pistons for something with less dome and away you go!

I played with some M5 late last year and it didn't show any improvement over my " cheap stuff".

George did you fatten it up at all? They say about 10 percent richer

'Spud,

Congratulations on your magazine article you deserve it. On the low amount of nitro issue Rich Barnard out of Ohio had a big block with aluminum heads and 12.5:1 compression on alky and best he ran was 8.16 and was frustrated with the performance of the car. I mixed him up 25% and right out of the box he went 8.02, 8.01 and on a 8.00 index run he went 7.96. Like you I don't recommend the nitro much with 14:1 compression. It did seem to me with the engine set to run nitro you gained a tenth for every 10% you added. I found it to be a good tuning tool.

Yes I did. But I will try it again soon. I got a few things figured out.
