You do not need a wing. This, from a prominent A/Altered Comp Eliminator racer who tested one and said below 200 MPH a wing on a '23 T is unnecessary.

Play with the 4-bar. Try a shorter, higher instant center. But don't go any farther than necessary to keep it glued down or you may start to pull the tires out of the beams.

Lynn, I know you are using a mild SBC with a conservative tune up but I think you should not rule out converters with a higher stall - in the 4000 RPM region at least. You may find a lower range converter will cause the car to leave abruptly, pulling the wheels out of the beams.
Additionally, since you have a mild small cubic inch SBC a converter rated at 4000 RPM for a high strung SBC will likely have an actual stall speed significantly lower in your milder SBC. Good luck in your search.

I have no opinion on the batteries you specifically mentioned, but trust me, you want an alternator. Some mini alternators (Mitsubishi???) are quite small. Look at East Coast Auto Electric for ideas, both 12 or 16 volt.

I now use Morse cables on my cars. Because:
In 2000 I got out of shape and crashed head-on into the concrete guard wall. The block plate balooned forward about two inches and trapped the throttle rod and pinched it in the WOT position. Amazingly the car spun around still running at WOT and headed back toward the starting line where about 700 people were standing around. Thanks to an in-cockpit master shut-off switch I was able to kill the engine even though I was semi conscious and temporarily blinded by the impact (Now I know why the blindfold cockpit test is important.)

A quick fix may be to put packing tape over the hole and fill it with JB Weld. I doubt tech would not allow that.

I have an altered with a hand brake.
I also have another altered with a foot brake.
I prefer the hand brake. It is easier to stage the car precisely. Mine is Pull to brake.

I am using a Mallory signal generator for the tach. Autometer and MSD also make one. Hope this helps.

Frenchtown, do you mean floor pan under the car or trans or a pan separating you from the trans?

There has to be a metal tunnel cover completely isolating the transmission from the driver's compartment. The only other option was to wear a complete Top Fuel driving suit instead. I knew of the rule when I built the car, but the foot clearance between the frame rails and the trans was so tight that I elected to race without the tunnel in place. More room to move my size 13 driving shoe. Mine is held in place with Dzus buttons, with a piece of PigMat sandwiched under it since I cannot see the transmission with the tunnel in place.

Sorry for the hijack of the thread, but safety regs can be a stumbling block, be it helmet design or other stuff.

As long as we're on the subject of safety let me state that my track allows me to run without a floor pan between my legs and an auto trans.

At Indy - Nuttna!
I had to install a floor pan before I raced. Even with the requisite trans shield and flywheel guards installed. Fortunately I had one already made.

Will you have someone to prime the injector stacks?
If not, consider a priming device, and possibly a way to drive around in the pits on gas.

Speaking of charging batteries, I would also recommend using an alternator. They absorb little power. One horsepower = 746 watts. At 16 volts that's 46 amps worth of charging, and a fully charged battery will not draw 46 amps worth of power. Even at 50% efficiency that 46 amp draw only requires 2 HP. Trivial.
Remember - consistency over maximum performance?
