That is a good question. I don't have a precise answer, but I have played with adjusting rollout when I occasionally run Nostalgia Comp which is a .400 Pro Tree at our track. When I shallow stage my lights are in the .100 range. When I roll in and deep stage I can get my lights down in the .030 range. So by rolling in an extra six inches I've cut about .070 second off the reaction time. By extension, I'm thinking it would now take about .070 seconds to roll the half foot to trigger the timers.

My (orange) "Last Logghe" altered sixty-foots in about 1.25 seconds.

I do not know about NHRA Div. 7, but here in Div. 3 you can get your chassis re-certified at the end-of-year Division E.T. finals. Maybe a call to their offices could help you. I have found that to be the cheapest place to have it done.

Thanks Mark. That is actually the last altered built at the famed Logghe Stamping Company. I am the original and sole owner. It has always had a six cylinder engine. Chuck Kurzawa, noted Top Fuel builder did the welding when he worked at Logghe. Al Bergler did the tin work. In 2000 I crashed the car at Norwalk and it sat for 11 years until I collected enough parts to have the car front-halfed at Advanced Chassis in Antwerp Ohio.

I am about to become your "go to" guy.

That's because I have a small fleet of Ford six powered race cars and hot rods.

My avatar car (blue altered) runs a built 300 with a crossflow six - runs 9.0s @ 147 in Super Pro.

My Logghe altered (orange car) is run at vintage / nostalgia races a few times a year. It weighs almost 1800# with me in it (225#) and runs low-to-mid tens. It has run 9.7 in the past but I slowed it down to above 9.99 sec so I don't have to jump through the chassis cert hoops any more for the car since it only gets raced three or four times a year.

 But the most relevant car in my fleet is probably my Frenchtown Family Truckster. I built it to potentially run Super Street (10.90 index) but only bracket race it now. Here are some specs:

weight: 2150# (car and driver) w/ 70 lbs of ballast.
2.47! gears in a 9" rear. My plan was to switch to 4.56 gears for Super Street. 12" or 10.5" slicks
300 six, flat top pistons, bracket / circle track roller cam, dual quad intake w/ two tiny Autolite 2-Vs totaling 340 cfm equivalent 4V flow,
rollerized valve train, big valve ported head, stud girdle.
Powerglide 2-speed w/ 1.82 low gearset
4000 rpm stall 8" Coan converter

Even with the 2.47 rear gears and the tiny carbs it will run 11.90s on the hand brake or 11.60s on the trans brake, shifting the car at 5000 - 5500. On pump gas. I highly recommend the Powerglide over the C4. [There are valid reasons why most serious bracket race cars use Powerglides and 9" Ford rear ends, for that matter]
I recommend making the wheelbase 125" so the crushing torque of this engine does not overwhelm a too-short chassis. It can still look old-ish at 125". Also I'd use a stall speed of at least 4000 RPM. And build the chassis to cert for 9.99 and save yourself headaches in the tech line.

A 300 six with iron manifolds weighs 490# dry.

X2 on what dusterdave said.

On my altereds my trans used to get hot enough for smoke to come out the breather if I went a few rounds. I got in the habit of pouring a 3-gallon jug of water over the PG after a run.

Then I upgraded to a Hayden cooler at the back of the car with a small fan (similar to the ones used on boats for a bilge exhaust and also on NASCAR stock cars for brake cooling). At the entrance to the cooler [the exit side of the trans] I installed a temp sensor that triggers the fan to come on (thru a relay) at 155*F. I also have a dash-mounted over-ride switch to run the fan continuously if need be that I usually use for the final round after the semi's.
When I do my burnout the fan is off. After a run when I drive up the return road the fan comes on. Works great.

TnT - that's been my experience too. If you want to try a high HP car be the first there, make two passes as back-to-back as possible, and put it on the trailer. (I'm headed out the door to Milan right now to do just that for their Nostalgia weekend Fri, Sat, and Sunday. Running N/Comp index class .400 pro tree.)

I once heard a MoTech (Chryseler Corp.) say a SS/AA Hemi Super Stocker sitting on the starting line at full stall sees a trans fluid temperature rise of 100*F - per second!

I am also quite tall (6'6") and do have some back pain issues. When I had my chassis built (Advanced Chassis, Antwerp, Ohio) I took them a plywood template of my back in the seating position with appropriate lumbar support built in. It is very comfortable.

Glenn, Have you ever checked your tongue weight? I made up a fixture to check mine since my tongue jack seemed to be laboring to lift the tongue above the ball.





A simple bathroom scale can then be placed under the moveable jack stand to read weight directly.
[Now watch - Harbor Freight will be selling these next year if they're watching.]
