Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / mag direction - hemi
« on: April 19, 2017, 04:58:39 PM »
what direction mag do i need to get for 331 hemi.  cw or ccw.   also, will be using an offset drive.

out of curiosity, does the drive reverse the rotation if mag is in stock location or does rotation stay same.

Door Cars / 69 chevelle
« on: April 01, 2017, 10:07:43 AM »
buddy has a 69 (i think) chevelle that i been working on doing the tin work.  he's going to do put and LS in it with single turbo.  goal is to eventually set it up for running b/gas if possible.  its a budget build right now to get it running then adjust/change things later.

kind of funny, i had a chance to get the car years back and passed on it since i already was building another car and figured i could only devote resources / build one thing at a time.  well, i passed on it and now i find my self working on it haha.   its fun though, just enjoy something to do.

this is second time doing this, did the tin on my vw chassis car and it turned out good.  i have access to all brake, shear etc at work.  will get a better bead roller and own brake etc if i do another one.

doing the wheel tubs was interesting, made them at work as we have pittsburg machine.  they are in there, not sure if its right or not haha.. but they are in there.

will take it all otu and powder coat it all then reinstall.  the local sheet metal shop does not have plastic wrap on the aluminum so it gets little dinged up.

the challenging part for me is coming up with layout ideas. owner doesnt care what i do which makes it tough and part of reason why takes so long.  need the ole grey matter to churn up some ideas.

one thing is for sure, you think it takes 5 sheets.. well order 10 because your going to use em.

for the dash, i didnt roll anything in as no input.. so figured leave it smooth and let owner have gauge panel painted on it.   he is going to run a Motec efi and have dash on steering shaft.

i rolled a bow tie in the center between the tubs.  ill get better pic of it later.  need to weld a flange on the center pc where the tunnel will attach so it looks nice.

start of trying dream up something on the door panel.

« on: March 11, 2017, 07:43:34 PM »
before starting do you back down ALL blower motors or only blower with nitro?    do you just do one complete cycle from example cylinder one , cycle back to cylinder one?

seen a few nostalgia pictures where the fed's rear wheels were on a roller(s).  appears to be as pulling into or where the water box would be.

what was the purpose for these.

Drag Racing / floater spindles
« on: January 27, 2017, 07:59:40 PM »
been looking at floater spindle setup for rearend. doing some search found out Moser makes a setup.  its about 1k plus less then new MW and strange.   i'd say its comparable to the Strange setup based on bearing dia.   the MW uses a bigger inner/outer bearing.

here is one of the kits http://www.moserengineering.com/part-ff4050-moser-full-floater-kit-assembly.html

comparison chart http://www.darkside.ca/node/195

if you were starting from scratch and if there was a possibility you might run headsup class in the future its only about 1k more to do this at time of initial build.

Front Engine Dragsters / electronic dash
« on: November 19, 2016, 02:04:24 PM »
are we allowed to have a racepak type dash in a FED if running NE1 or 7.0 pro?  i thought i read somewhere they want to keep it nostalgia appearing so no dash's only a tack or misc gauges.   if so, i guess then this would only be for nhra sanctioned race right?

Spud Miller's Cave / fuel/ignition timer
« on: November 04, 2016, 06:11:17 PM »
looking for a little education on fuel and ignition timers on a mechanical setup.   would like semi-indepth info on how say fuel timers are used in a blown (or n/a?) setup.   how is it different then say using pills and pop-off's (or bleed valves?).   do the timers whether electric, c02, or ? operated take fuel away or add fuel?   how many would be typically used.

ive been trying to do some research and dont find much information.  see people discussing whether electronic solenoids are legal to be used in certain classes vs c02.   ive read where (i think) a timer or solenoid would be used at burnout to limit fuel so the motor doesnt load up (is that correct?)

on the ignition side, are the timers controlled by rpm or time?   i know from my experience with my old car that had a turbo, take timing out till peak torque then you can start to add some back in.  is that the case with electric timers on blown/mechanical setup? ive looked at Electrimotion site, i see the leahy box and misc timers and ways to hook up etc depending on how many you want.

anyways, just looking to learn something.

Wanted to sell / motec m84
« on: November 01, 2016, 10:12:34 PM »
trying to sell a few parts to fun the FED project.   selling Motec M84 fully unlocked. single wideband and advanced functions. comes with the UTC. unit sales new as listed for $2330.00 plus the UTC which new is $369.00... so $1800.00 is a steal (almost 1,000.00 off).

if your interested ill give you the serial number so you can call motec and check on it.

you might know someone that wants a top of the line efi unit for thier car.  i had it on a 4 cylinder engine and the guy i got it from used it on his drag bike.   1800 is a smoken deal with the UTC and fully unlocked.
