Front Engine Dragsters / How much ballist do I need in my FED?
« on: November 15, 2014, 09:15:19 PM »
I have a 166" FED. with no weight box in the front. With the current engine it pulls the front wheels about a foot and sets down without a problem. I'm pulling out the 355 and putting in a 383 [ sbc ]   About a 120 hp increase. I don't need a bigger wheelstand and don't really want to go to a wheelie bar. Does anyone have a formula on how much ballast to put on the front. The car weighs 1620 with me in it. I'm 260. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Front Engine Dragsters / Questions about a flathead FED.
« on: April 04, 2014, 10:29:07 PM »
I've got a 168" car with a small block Chevy that won't cert. Only runs 10.80s. Thinking of upgrading to a new chassis that will cert. My idea is to keep the old chassis and put a flathead ford in it . Since I know nothing about flatheads I'm wondering what kind of time could I expect out of it. Stock motor with a cam, 350 turbo. 4.30 gear. Car weighs 1360 now with the small block. Any ideas?

Front Engine Dragsters / My first front engine dragster--need history
« on: November 22, 2013, 09:06:29 PM »
Got my first front engine dragster and am trying to find some history on it. Car is 168" wb . 8 3/4 Chrysler rear, center steer with the bell crank on the outside of the left tube, torsion bar behind the axle. Car is mild steel, was told the car was built in the early 70's and I've traced it back to Michigan. Trying to figure out who built it.  Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Gassers / Caster settings
« on: July 02, 2013, 11:36:58 AM »
I'm building a '55 Chevy gasser car. I used a straight axle out of a '66 Chevy van. Does any body know how much caster to run with this set-up? I have 9 degrees in it now but, it gets the "death wobbles" at about 25mph. Anybody else have this problem?
