Front Engine Dragsters / battery inside driver area
« on: April 08, 2019, 10:26:54 AM »
im using a go lithium 16v battery, they are small  8.75" x 6.95" x 3.00

since its small and light, there is no use to mount it up front and to keep things tidy id like to make up a tray that clamps to the uprights just behind my transmission, engine is 50" out so i got some space. the battery is a sealed case..... is there any tech issues with mounting the battery in front of the driver area ?   im not going to install a fire wall in front of the pedals like some but i could make a cover to conceal the battery but since its a sealed battery do i need to ?

also is using clamps to mount it to the upright legal or should it be mounted to tabs welded to the up right?

Front Engine Dragsters / floor / firewall....electronics mounting
« on: April 23, 2018, 01:27:50 PM »
looking for suggestions/ideas for floor and electronics mounting

engine is 50" out with a short glide so i have room to play with behind the trans, i was thinking of making a 2 piece floor/firewall and mount the ignition and battery behind and to the outside of the transmission, ignition is a 7al and battery is a small go lithium, battery is 9x7x3 8 lbs so not worth it to try and put it up front. i dont think there would be any issues with doing it this way ? firewall would be there so its not in the driver area.

i would like to make the floor removable so some small bolts instead of dzus fasteners, the floor would extend beyond the firewall and this is where i would mount the battery and ignition. rules are vague but must the battery be mounted to a frame rail or would it be ok to mount to the removable floor? what material would you use? steel or aluminum ?

thoughts, ideas, suggestions ? any pics if you have your stuff mounted inside would be great.

anyone run this class? talk to me , what does a newbie need to know ?

few questions ill throw out there .

7.0 is basically fast index racing right ?  from my understanding you qualify and are paired with a car similiar ET wise and race that way correct ?

bbc with blower is ok ? what about blower size , injection hat , fuel pump  ?

powerglide with air shifter is ok setup on a seperate timer {not delay box}

regular msd 7al-3 type ignition ok  ? im only asking becuase i see stuff about mags in the rules

i think i have figured out what i would like to do with my new project over the next few months , and seeing how maple grove is having a 7.0 index and also new england is , maybe ill give it a shot ?  anything you can tell a new guy would be great .

thanks !

Front Engine Dragsters / which direction to go with FED
« on: May 14, 2013, 02:46:42 PM »
so im slowly getting my FED done , and while im alittle ways off im at that point where i need to start thinking which way to go with it . meaning , go bracket racing , or get into other types of racing with it .

the biggest thing im getting at is , which engine to go with i have a carbed big block i can stick in the car to keep it real simple and just go bracket racing .  or i also have a blown bbc i could stick in it . it has gas carbs on it now , but i could very easily swap it for injected alky and maybe go do something different with the car ....maybe this 7.0 stuff ??

i love bracket racing , but i think becuase of my work schedule i might have more fun doing something else .

i only ever bracket raced and i only ever been to one nostalgia type race and i was there to just enjoy it didnt really care about learning or anything just wanted to enjoy some racing action ,so for you guys that live up north here in PA and even alittle south , which way would you go ? i know maple grove has the geezers , and i think beaver has a few things here and there but what about every where else around PA ?

suggestions or anything are appreciated

Your Builds / Photo Gallery / 220" FED build
« on: May 12, 2013, 11:49:54 AM »
been a long time coming , but i have been putting my dragster together over the past few weeks , i 1st started bending tubing on april 26th  i pick at it here and there not in a real hurry to get it done , but id like to hit the track maybe in july . who knows . when its done its done ! .... but i do have the majority of the stuff to get it done or atleast into a rolling chassis . since im usually busy with work i typically hoard alot of parts before i even start a project this way i dont need to wait to get parts but i think the big parts needed are transmission , center chunk , fire extinguishers , and a few little odd ball parts.....

  220" wheel base , kind pissed i cut the tubing short wanted to go 225 to keep my screen name correct , but the heck with it..... {i did have a 225" RED , and the owner before me had "digger" painted on the side of the car hence the 225digger}

heres some pics ..... any suggestions please let me know....and please remember im not a chassis builder , so dont beat me up to bad

Roo Man's Room / burn down tubes ?? about lower fram rails
« on: May 03, 2013, 05:39:02 PM »
i take it there is no rule for drilling the lower frame rails to add burn down hook ups in the lower rails ? im thinking about putting the puke tank out back instead of in the front . and just want to make sure i do it right when installing them into the rails ...... also , how is the inside of the tube blocked so oil doesnt go forward , and then in the back i guess this really isnt an issue since the rear tubes go up .

pics , advice , suggestions are highly appreciated ...

Roo Man's Room / mounting a solid front axle
« on: April 02, 2013, 12:00:28 PM »
anyone have some pics on how they are mounting a solid front axle    ?  originally i was going to go with a tripod setup , but decided to go with a drop axle that is pretty short , around 26" width  i see a good bit of cars with a short front axle and no other bars or rods holding the axle at the ends , im curious if anyone has some pics on how they mounted the front axle into the lower frame rails .  im also going to extend the frame alittle forward of the front axle so i can mount a nose to the car

thanks

« on: March 05, 2013, 12:40:57 PM »
need alittle help with rear axle width ,   im going to build my new car with a 21" shoulder hoop ,   the rear wheels im going to run are 12" wide with a 6" back spacing . the tires im thinking of using are goodyear  d5  31x13.0-15  tred width is 12.8  im if figuring correctly ,  outside of hoop will be 24"  2 inches of tire clearance from hoop to sidewall , 6" back spacing , 3/8" for rotor thickness  ... im at a 39" wide axle , from outside of axle to outside of axle ..... does this measuremet of 39" sound correct   ?

Front Engine Dragsters / bracket racing a FED ...
« on: March 03, 2013, 06:43:55 PM »
the majority of todays bracket dragsters are RED's  , lets hear what it would take for a  FED to run in todays highly competative electronics class .

if you where to build a fed for just bracket racing , how would you set it up ?

motor size / power ?

tire size ?

rear gear ?

lentgh of car ?

engine placement ?

im going to build a FED here in the next few months and hoarding parts . here is what im thinking so far

200" car

383 sbc  injected alky  , make around 650hp

2 spd glide  with 1.80 gear

rear gear im thinking around the 4.33 range

rear tire  not really sure , im thinking a 29x12 slick should do well  ?

any advice ?   we dont see many feds in the bracket classes these days and my local track has an easy 40+ dragsters in super on any given sunday , so id like to be some what competative ...

thanks !
