Front Engine Dragsters / Diaper or belly pan
« on: February 19, 2017, 03:15:14 PM »
Wonder what most are running on yoiur FED's? I see benifit of both.Diaper would do best  job of containing oil if rod kicks out or so it seems.Bellypan would be easier to deal with  when checking bearings and should help with cool down time. With solid block and billet heads thats important issue for me.

If have pan and have tested let know your thoughts on them!

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / drag rotating PG
« on: February 08, 2017, 08:23:56 PM »
Just reassenbled PG in new JW case I got for added safety.Should be safe sucker is 10# heavier, When assembled there is lot of drag when trying to rotate by hand. Can do with vise grip(rubber pads). All clearances checked.Everything lubed.disassemble and reassembled cpl times.

How much drag should thehis migre be? Also  does have rubber spacers between steels to reduce drag when disengaged.Wondering if might be whats in biting me in butt?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / msd grid
« on: February 07, 2017, 02:55:22 PM »
Thinking about putting msd grid in  FED and wondering if any herre are running one.Figure its another tuning tool.Understand not allowed under somet nostalgia rules.Car is mainkly built for brackets and some show races.Grid  can always be removed so legality is not a concern.Looking for input from those running as to how you are running it.My thoughts are to help with starting line power and maybe track tunning.

Front Engine Dragsters / projects final weight
« on: October 29, 2016, 04:18:54 PM »
Not to jump on someone else's thread on weight. Finally got car to point that weiging it was possible.Target was 1550# and as always hoping for less. Not to be,YET.

225" Solid block TFX with billet heads Hemi, powerglide, short body and wheelie bar(15#) ,full saferty gear and all fluids 1605#.Full body adds 20 more to total.Thought I watched every item close, machined every ounce  that could safely be shaved.Guess I missed about 880 ounces.

Have deal with carbon fiber company on few pieces  .New injector whould save pound or two.Smaller chute on way and some aluminum bolts where can safely be used.May pull 15# off after that its going to get very costly and this is still a bracket car.Plus new ceramic bearings will help more than 2 or 3 pounds at same cost.

Before comments driver is already down to 225 from almost 280.

Front Engine Dragsters / car cover for FED
« on: September 06, 2016, 08:22:51 PM »
Topic on another site about best cover for dragster.Got me to wondering if anyone makes a car cover to fit a FED? Since mines going to travel out in the great open for while it would be nice to be able to cover her up when not on road.Already have cpl pieces on drawing board for keeping motor and cockpit dry during travel so simple cover for whole car would be bonus.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / powergide w/ VW turbo stall problem
« on: August 25, 2016, 03:41:13 PM »
Anyone know of conveter guy who has worked with turbo car running glide.Little borther  build a VW using VW 6 cylinder think it VR-6? Anyway problem is getting it to stall high enough to get turbo spooled up.W/o turbo its 140 hp with turbo at 20 psi its around 750 to 800.W/o turbo not enough torque to make conveter stall high enough to spool turbo to have torque to run. Need 4500 to get 12 psi ans with conveter he has its only hitting 3200.

Thinking may need someone who has experiance building conveter for turbo car and glide.

Spud Miller's Cave / 30% load with powerglide
« on: June 30, 2016, 02:29:44 PM »
Understand that the more load on motor better for burning nitro. How well with 30% load work with powerglide thats built around running just alky.Trans has all good stuff and should be good for 2500 hp. Would higher gear work better,4.11 now.6600 stall and understand more TQ will raise stall.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / converter to crank alignment
« on: June 14, 2016, 07:23:47 PM »
Long story short. I machined a adapter midplate for lil brothers new project.A VW vr-6 turbo eninge to powerglide transmission.Lots of hours and cpl bags of chips.
Seems  I have trans about .015 high. going to make inserts  and drill to hopefully get dead on.

I know .0000 would be ideal, but in real world? How much tolerance is there in alignment?
