Dean,
Bruce is right on the money regarding the amount of room that the fabricated housings take up. Some manufacturers (Moser is one) make the housing so that it has a symmetrical appearance from the rear and that results in extra material outboard of the chunk on the right side. In the case of a handbrake car especially, this is not a good thing. Some of this problem is negated if you have a "high chair" car like some of the newer NT/F entries but we don't like them anyway and prefer a true nostalgia look. :)
The other advantage of the Strange H1110 is that its design means that the axle tubes are very well supported due to the length of the welds that secure the tubes. Most of the others simply weld the housing to the tube at the end of the housing taper and to an internal bulkhead

interesting, had no idea that was available.  mines a high chair setup modern style chassis.  we talked about height but idea was to look over blower instead of walls.  at least thats way i understand it.  i can see on non-blown carb or injected deal having seat lower.  my buddy's is real low, i cant even get out of the sucker haha.   im gonna use hand brake, its a tight fit in these things anyways.  i dont know any difference so it will be perfect whatever it is haha.

thanks all, ill get one.  i was wanting to do this in my door car as in the kirkey seat your kind of swimming in there.  also, have seen some bad wrecks while watching pdra and other door car races via the net and the announcers and racers say its an important part of the safety program for the support it provides in an accident.

ill get one in the FED, was just want to get the fed done first and running which hopefully will be by sept. i have a carbon seat, not sure manuf though.

mine has the mitler bros housing and strange ultra pro third member.  just surprised me to see so many stock housings in a lot of the feds.  i figured it would be commonplace in some of the faster cars to have aftermarket housings. i get that some of these feds been around a long time and people do not upgrade for whatever reason.  i also understand even in 7.0 a fed is prob making 1200 hp to run the number comfortably and stock housing might be able to handle that for a while. would you think the third member would fail first before the housing?   this is assuming the housing mounting is up to nhra spec as noted earlier.

i was surprised at how many stock rearend housings guys where using.  some were gusseted across the pumpkin.  they had aftermarket third members but the housing itself looked stock to me.

thank you, let me add to the question.  if in the lanes, you start the motor (alky) and then have to turn off due to oil down or ?.  when you go to restart while in the lanes is it critical then?   not from the aspect of with running nitro and blowing up the motor such as could occur if nitro motor wasnt backed down, but for ease of restart on blown alky motor?

i seen a few guys backing down alky blown motor (i think) while watching some of the runs at MM

before starting do you back down ALL blower motors or only blower with nitro?    do you just do one complete cycle from example cylinder one , cycle back to cylinder one?

Sam, I'm not a chassis builder, but I have been racing dragsters since 1962. Ya, I raced  with a flag man, before the trees. My 1'st JrFueler was a short wheel base all iron 301ci SBC high gear car where I just rev it up pop the clutch and smoke the tires [ to keep the RPM up] to about 1/2 track, on nitro. We ran 8.0's and 191mph in 1964.  It was the best of times racing every weekend at about 4 differnt tracks around Wisc.and Rockford Ill.

Jon,
back in this era the trans was manual i take it?  or was there no clutch at all.  you were pushed and then popped in gear like shifting car without clutch (daily driver)?

please answer as much or as little as anyone cars to, nobody likes a newbie but i just want to learn and understand, again there is nobody i know who touches this stuff.

Thank you all,
Cheers
Sam

some dont like newbies as they ask a lot of questions but that is what the forum is for right!!!  questions make the forum grow, the community expand, and helps guys like me out who are in the same boat.

great questions your asking.  i dont know the history either but it sure is interesting to learn about it.   i can not believe what some guys drove back in the day.   they have balls of steel haha.

cant take credit for the pic, seen it on the FED fb feed and yellowbullet.  i think same person posted it in both.  lots of neat pictures.

so they went from push starting to using the rollers.  what type of trans were they using back then? did they have provisions on the trans/motor for starter ?  if they did, id imagine they would not use to save weight?
