we did that show a couple of years ago. pressley invited us down, said there would be 12-24 fed's there. 6 were there. got there at 8am. time trails for us and the f/c's would have been about 1:30. that's just nuts. everybody else made numerous runs. we left and will never go again.

we just did orange drag reunion on sterling airport in ma. it's only 330' of runway. there was 5 dragsters there and i'm pretty sure everybody has m/t's on them. I think we were the only ones using a 10.5W on a 10" rim @ 9.5lbs. we were the only ones going straight, while the other were moving around. there was one fool again (could use worse terms) that goes all over the track because he is all over the track. told him he needs more air, but doesn't listen, don't like running with him at all.
another had 29.5's on it. definitely a door car tire. told him it really needs new and better tires to stop the squirrelyness. he's gonna get 10.5W's for it.
my .02 peso's

we run the m/t 33 10.5's, but we only do 9.0 @147 with the buick 350. I tried the lows and highs for air and the best so far for us is 8.5 and launch at 3500. we tried 4k once and you could watch the chassis get all sorts of crazy. 3500 is just right for us.

don't confuse the chevy 350, which they make a ton of everything, with the buick 350, which I make or modify other parts. we may be lighter but not faster.

190", 4.10's and m/t 33x10.5-15's. 350 buick with a 471. when we added the 471, it went about 70* up and broke the f/end. fixed and added 30lbs up front AND w/bars. 60's around 1.3' and 9.0@147. making new brackets for 60lbs. w/bars are pain to put on and off.

I take it they have a swap meet at the same time. what's the going price on a decent 6-71? hard to find in the northeast.
thanks

holy moly...1050hp. impossible to make with our little s/c 350 buick. lol.
with our 50 yr old Gilmore chassis, p/g, 4.10's and 33x10.5-15's we launch at 3600. tried 4k and the chassis just tweaks all over the place. looks real ugly doing it.
we are knocking on the 8'er door. 9.02 & 147 so far.

my program with my son is 'when you don't feel safe anymore, that's it'. I don't push him. when he wheelied and broke the front end, he said no door car replacement. found a doctor for it and we continue to race it.
if he quits, we will make it a show car or sell it and buy an early 30's buick for us and my 2 grandsons to drive around in. ;D

love that video. no weight on front axle. no wheelie bars. no problems.  ;D ;D
too bad they don't make tires like that anymore. would love to do smokey shows for the crowds.

I also started late at 60 something(I forget). but I has a concussion 2 1/2 yrs ago and a major affect on me is now being claustrophobic suited up. thankfully my son loves driving it. he did a BIG wheelie back in may and we had to replace the first 4ft of chassis.
we run a buick 350 with a 4-71 on it. so far 9.2 @ 145. not bad with nothing. the buick guys rent cecil in mid sept for fri-sat. stop by and say hi.

jon,

the m/t's are 33" and the g/y's are 31". does the 2" difference matter?
btw, we run those m/t's and 1700lbs with o/size driver. lol

thanks

roger, there is a thread going on the v8buick site in the 350 section about gear wear and some ways for a possible solution. but they are not a 100% cure.

suggestions are not out line. my background is/was(retired now) a r&d/experimental machinist at pratt & whitney jet engines. I can't afford the jet engine material nor have machines to work the material. if I did, it would be one heck of an engine. so any I do is like a never ending science project with a buick 350. a lot of parts on the engine are/were not designed for a buick 350. it's become more of a Frankenstein as most people call it.
microblue or rem is metal finishing, the idea is similar to things done to jet engine parts. a lot of ideas in other avenues have been used in our racing world with success. I figured I would asked if anybody has any knowledge of it. if not, I will be playing guinea pig with it. hopefully it works.
the bronze gear symptom is an issue for the buick engines. stock engines will 300k and not show any wear on the two gears. as soon as we start adding h/p which we have to add oil pressure do we have a gear wear issue. we also have an issue with cam walking. the v6 can be helped with a plate, but the other engines cannot. the idea of going to a dry sump is tough for me. the 1968 chassis rails and the buick engine offer very little room for anything. I would have it direct drive off the c/shaft which would conflict with the stuff already there. but because this is how we run the dragster, we sometimes end up with some pain in the butt problem. but we and the engine have survived w/o being apart for the last 5yrs.
we chug along at 9.2's at 145 using a 4-71 with a 650 holley. looking to go to a roller cam for next year and see if it will make it to 8.5.
that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
