Altereds / Weber carbs for a buick v6, hold on
« on: June 12, 2020, 01:40:35 PM »
new dilemma. naturally buick only. bought this 125'' altered. we are going to try to run the altered with 2 buick v6's. back one will be with a 4-71 on it. front one will be with an inglese weber setup. these were made when mr peabody and the wabac machine was on tv.
the webers are a 3bbl and belong on a 67-68 Porsche. needless to say they are worth some dough.
the dilemma is cooling. making a water cooled system would be a big pain, so we are thinking of ''drinking fluid''. the big question is can we run ''drinking fluid'' in the webers? the holleys are no problem, just the webers. anybody know anything about this wild scenario?? lol

you chebbie guys got it easy.....come over to my side.....lol

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Engine parts coatings
« on: December 04, 2017, 04:53:30 PM »
been reading up on some of the material finishes for cranks, cam, bearings, etc and wondering if anybody has used them or know of other experiences. there is rem, microblue, moly and who knows what else is out there.

I have to find something for the dist/cam gear combo. a stock buick 350 will go 300k and not have any dist/cam gear wear. start adding higher oil pressure, which we need, bigger cams and more rpm, we develop a lot of dist/cam gear wear. used to replace mine every year. going to amsoil helped to make it last longer, but still have wear.

Front Engine Dragsters / Head and Neck devices
« on: May 15, 2016, 05:21:44 PM »
safety items are getting close to being done. ordered a new bell helmet. looks like the bottom of the helmet is shorter than the old helmet. had to buy a helmet skirt. also bought a z-tech head/neck device because it is adjustable.  having to adjust everything to make it fits in the dragster is another story. the dragster is 1968 and the cage has been brought up to specs but never modified for fatter or taller carbon units. this has presented a problem because nothing will work together because of the cage size. have to use the neck collar instead of the head/neck device. any advice.

btw, reason haven't posted anything in a while is I has a real hard concussion a year ago. the checklist of bad issues from the concussion, aced the test 100%. result is a very different person says my wife. I agree. still on meds from it.

Spud Miller's Cave / Magneto length issue
« on: December 28, 2014, 12:39:48 PM »
I bought a used vertex mag that was made for a 455 buick. the owner worked for vertex. the 350 and 455 dist are the same, just different gears. went to install it and found it doesn't go all the way down. sticks up at least 3/16". I have plenty of dist's to check and the vertex is off. any ideas on how to fix it?
thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / Buick 350 supercharged
« on: December 04, 2014, 06:55:20 PM »
some of you know I run a 350 buick with a b&m s/c. I have to make my own intakes(340 mopars) due to nobody else does. this year we went 10.2' @ 128. I'm not a tuner so whatever works we go with it and we do it just for fun and r&d.
now I have cut up a 455 dual quad to use a Hampton 4-71. laying out everything on the engine with carbs and scoop, the thing is taller than the roll cage. I told the driver i'll buy him a periscope. lol.
anyways looking at the belt drive, instead of using a cog belt, is it possible to run a 10 rib serp belt on it?  more questions to follow.

thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / head neck restraints
« on: March 30, 2014, 03:12:30 PM »
how many have one and what brand? my wife(er nurse) and I were discussing what to get. we looked at the nexgen rev video and she was totally against it even though it has good reviews. didn't like the helmet to device gap. I kind of agree with her.
opinions please.

Front Engine Dragsters / rims and tires from the 60's
« on: March 20, 2014, 05:46:22 PM »
when I bought my fed it came with 15 x 10 rim's. the car is supposedly 1968 and I'm trying to keep it somewhat period correct. question is, what rims and tires were of that era?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Blower snout lengths
« on: February 01, 2014, 01:59:27 PM »
since I run a 350 buick, all intakes are homemade. I am trying to put on a 4-71 Hampton blower on the engine. but I have to push the blower way forward to get by front section.
Do they make longer snouts and are they all interchangeable?
