I need a new oilpan, the one i have is too tall for my car.
What are the rules regarding ground clearance?
And what pan should i look for? SBC...

I use a Milodon dragster pan with the kickout (no starter) , Aluminum pans are OK but if you do something that makes them start to leak, harder to find a tig welder at some tracks, but can always find a torch rig. 2" is minimum oil pan clearence, must leave room for either the tray or diaper

Milodon 31145 is popular and works well--I am guessing you have a two piece rear seal block--I would ask Jim that sold you the engine--he may have others he could sell
show a photo of the pan you have that will not work---what is depth at the rear? That way you can compare to ones you want
Milodon also makes a pan with a kickout which usually makes a few more HP but big deal you have an engine that went 5.20's so it is Plenty strong!! and that kick out pan is expensive

I`ll give the exact measurements later as i dont remember them at the moment (and im not at home now).
The oil pan on the engine is very similar to this:

On my SBC, I'm using the Milodon #31170.

My Oil pan is about 8.25" at the most. Gives me 1" of groun clearance

Going to have to raise the engine or go dry-$ump, Bottom of the pan and oil pump/pickup will be a problem if you go with anything shorter than 7 1/2"

Do you have a torsion bar on the front? Maybe you could raise the front some.

Maybe you could turn the front axle upside down :o

No adjustment on the front...
I'll find a solution to it. I found one locally that might actually work, i need to doublecheck exact measurements.

They used a 31145 in my car when it was in USA.
BUT, there is always a BUT..., if im not mistaken, my engine block has a right hand dipstick >:( (Im rushing home from work soon to confirm as i havent paid any attention to it before)
31145 is left hand only, and i cant seem to find any with the same depth for right hand. Cut and weld?
I hope im wrong though..

Right hand DS block uses a one piece rear main seal, older 2-piece seal is a left hand DS block,
Milodon #31173 rt hand DS w/KO
Milodon #31147 is without KO

It is right hand dipstick and two-piece, just checked.

SBC's 79 & later are right hand DS - one piece seal is 87 & later.

Dip Sticks ??, Do race cars have Dip Sticks ??
We dump our oil after each event when we get home, cheap insurance. I have talked to a alky burning racer that didn't drain his oil after a race week-end and let sit for a few months [Winter] and was surprised to see rust on his iron heads and block, because of the alky in the oil. Alky attracts water.

Hi Jon, no i dont need a dip stick, but i was thinking the pan would need to be modified to fit the block if i use one for left hand DS, and that is something i would not rather do myself.
