Title: slow leak
Post by: spookie on March 19, 2019, 05:24:59 AM
My weld front wheel has a slow leak at bead.Have resealed three times. When air drops to 25psi,starts leaking again!! Would fix-a flat stop this? The air will drop due to cold temps, then the leak at the bead restarts.Only one tire does this. Can't see a thing wrong with tire or rim.

DON'T use fix-a-flat. Break the tire down and remove any corrosion, knicks, or burrs from the bead area of the wheel. There is a black liquid sealer available to apply to the bead area that may help. Apply and then air up. Also be sure to check to make sure the valve stem core and the stem itself is not leaking where it protrudes through the rim. Good luck.

I agree with Frenchtown, don't use fix a flat, too messy, but check rim for nicks, etc, and seal the rim , bead to bead, spray paint might work,  I have used this trick to seal alum wheels that were leaking thru the casting.
Also check to see if any flashing is on the tire, if so trim it. Sometimes I have to trim flashing to get the bead to fully bead up on wire spoke wheels.
I assume you are finding the leak by dipping the wheel/tire in water.

Does the bead seem to hold above 25 #s?
You may have a mynute leak in the tread or side wall that lets the bead leak at 25.
A could try a tube but they can be near impossible to put in a front tire.
If you do go with tube you should run your fingers around inside tire to make sure theres nothing to poke into it.
