Shadow, what does your dragster weigh as it is in the picture?

1390#'s

I ran a late 50's chevy 3 speed with rev and 1st gear removed leaving 2-3 for a high low. I used this behind an injected 331 sbc and used to granny shift it from low to high at the track (just exhibition runs back in the 90's at local nostalgia events and goodguys events) I blew up 2 box's, chewed low gear (2nd) to shreds, after that I just left it in high gear and rev'd the xxxx out of it.  I dont race the rail anymore stopped in '96 but it worked. my rail originally had a direct drive unit in it back in 1960 I just couldn't afford to replicate it when I restored the car but wanted a period trans (not an automatic) that would have been run back then.

Wanted to sell / 23T altered project from CL
« on: November 24, 2017, 09:42:51 AM »
I was looking for a 23T altered sand found one in delaware, unfortunatly I have other issues that mandate I pass on this at this time. thought I'd share the links.
here is the link + some info the guy emailed me. may need some updating but it's a clean looking project for $4K.

from the owner :
Frame was built in a shop in Illinois 20+ years ago but never completed or ran. It is 9" Ford Rear, I have the Stange Axles and Center section with spool and 4.30 gears. Chassis will probably need updates. Set up for big driver and can be set up for tall no pedals are in it so can be adjusted for height, cage is wide.  if you should have any questions please call me at (302) 245-5882.

finished detailing the old girl for a stint in a Museum. she's been sitting covered up in my garage for years, better she sits where  she can be viewed, enjoyed and maybe teach a thing or two to some  of the young  dudes about how they got it done in the early days.

Here is a set I fab'd up about a year and a half ago, used 1.750  mandrel u-bends from speedway with 3/8" thick flange plates. did each pipe  in 2 pieces in order to change direction & get the angle I liked then tig'd them up. my rail is 1959 so I was going for a more period look rather than a zoomie.
here is a progression of headers on my rail, 1st pic was early 90's with long swept out weed burners, next I borrowed a set of up swept zoomies from a buddies mid 60's C/D, then I built the set I put on recently.

...thats a  chassis research  k-88  and not a Lyndwood.  the back half looks like a K-88 and the main frame & front look like a needle nose TE-440?  still a nice find and it looks to be in decent shape, good luck with it.

I forgot to add..... I would not use a lyndwood original as a competition vehicle,  some Lyndwoods were ordered and built  by Pat Bilbow at his Wilks-Barre Pa welding plant  ( there is a way to tell if it's a factory built rail) but alot were just pre-cut kits that were welded by the buyers  at there own shops.

these are historical pieces of racing history, if he wants to go fast do it in a modern made/old style inspired dragster.

FYI-  the purple lyndwood pictured was run out of texas the way it sits up until just a few years ago when it was sold to someone up here in the PA/NY/NJ area.

In a word....yes but it would take any and all historical value out of the car.  And you would need to be sure of the integrity of the pipe  before adding more pipe to it as it's 50+ years old.       Heres some examples of Lyndwood Eliminator II chassis all from the 1959-1960 era and one later 4 bar lyndwood which as the last style Bilbow built.  the yellow flathead is a  96"wb eliminator II, the blown green one is a 130"wb eliminator II, the silver & blue blown chevy (mine)  is a 98"wb eliminator, the gold one is a early 60's 4-bar small tube  lyndwood Eliminator III  and the purple rail  was an original eliminator II but has been heavily modified to pass NHRA tech and now it is what it is?

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Short WB FED's

New to the site as a member, but been a  lurker on here for awhile.  just wanted to throw my $0.02 into the mix, how about a 98"wb!

I personally watched another 98" wb sbc injected  Lyndwood (like mine pictured) rip off straight pass's in the 8.90's till the track said "no more" due to the style & age of the chassis.  his set up was a 355 injected ,PG. He also added wheelie bars  as these tend to stand up, but it hooked & went, later on he couldn't stop on a pass & hit a brick wall at 40-50 mph.

Back in the day my dragster ran A/D till about 1964 and ran consistently in the high 8's with the technology of the time.
