Post by: mrmopartech on April 09, 2017, 07:13:55 AM
Trying to and not have the wife find out what it cost to get our diggers to do their first runs.I am starting from scratch with having a motor and tranny and spare parts ,buying a digger and trailer and all the cost setting them up and being able to make the car run down the track at a proper speed.Right now we are in the 20-25 grand mark canadian, mrmopartech

This is drag racing, and one should never add up the receipts.

Receipts are only important for IRS deductions ;D
The more you do yourselves the cheaper the overall cost.
Don't overanalyze the cost it takes the fun out of anything!

I agree with the posts above. You don't even want to know what it costs! I can tell you that in the early 1990s I calculated expenses based on 60 runs with our Top Alcohol Dragster. We were reasonably competitive at the NHRA National level. I included travel, entry fees, parts depreciation, etc. If the car did not break any parts, it was $1065 per run. I can't imagine what it costs to run one of those today.

I put my complete setup, ready to run, just add fuel, up for sale two years ago.

Never got one bit.

Now I'm building a 1,200 HP engine and am beyond your total cost for your rig.

All depends on how fast you want to go.

This was the ad, not for sale ANY MORE THOUGH.

depending on what you want for digger, you could spend 15 to 20 USD easy.. that doesnt include motor or trans.  then trailer will run you prob 5 to 8k depending on length of it.  then add in another 5k for incidentals .  i'd say if you have motor/trans.. and need to buy a FED/Altered or whatever and trailer.. id be looking closer to 30k.

I typically throw the receipts away as soon as I get them! I have a vague idea what I have invested in the big components but I know I am missing probably 1/3 or more likely 1/2 of the dollars spent in my head!  :o
I prefer to not keep track!
