Front Engine Dragsters / Throttle cable trouble
« on: July 04, 2016, 06:47:15 AM »
I cant remember last when such a simple problem turned into such a head scratcher. My old engine used a braided cable on the hilborn injector. The cable ran over the motor plate from the rear of engine. When the throttle was pushed the cable pulled injector out towards the zoomie. Worked OK. New motor has a kinsler injector and the way it is set now needs to pull rearward. One more bend was required and just cannot get a smooth cable feel.
I think I'll need to flip my lever and pull from the front of the engine with a morse type cable. While I'm at it I should re engineer my pedal. Its the cast style that pulls from the rod slot.
Before I order parts I thought I'd check  to see what's working best.
Thanks in advance guys ;)

Front Engine Dragsters / Crankshaft to converter problems
« on: May 21, 2016, 07:13:13 PM »
Putting the new motor in my dragster. I discovered the Callies XL sprint car crank has a 2 1/4" internal register and my converter hub is 1 3/4. Looks like I'll need to bush down about 1/2". Has anybody ran into this? Does Callies  or the converter company's make a bushing. If not it should be easy enough to spin one out on the lathe.

Front Engine Dragsters / Engine Torque Limiter
« on: March 19, 2016, 10:57:17 AM »
My old Dart block used torque limiting struts from holes where std. motor mounts would be angling up to a chassis tube. My new Brodix Alum. Block has the std motor mount pad milled off. I do run a 1/4 in. Alum mid plate. How have you quys limited engine fore and aft movement when you couldn't
bolt to the side of the block?

Roo Man's Room / Chute Mount
« on: March 08, 2016, 11:13:45 AM »
My old chute is kind of like its owner, tattered from being deployed too many times!
Tech has never hassled me but I doubt if the mounting is legal. The aluminum plate on the dragster side had been relieved and a small hole cut in the bag. This allows the chute main lanyard to go straight threw the pack to a half inch bolt. The main lanyard  all coils up first. Never hanging down. It's positioned in such a way that it can touch nothing metallic when deployed.  It was mounted this way when I bought it and has never failed me. Ever seen this before? Has a clean look but it's the only one I know of this way so its gotta be wrong.

Roo Man's Room / Slick Screwing
« on: January 29, 2016, 10:58:33 AM »
As it would pertain to FED's. To screw or not to screw. Keep it clean guys. This has quite a bit of chatter with newer compounds and rims. Much of the info out there is for heavy cars and 12 to 14 lbs pressure. I've always screwed the rims down in the past. I tried a new technique recommended to me. Mount without bead grease and use Aqua Net hair spray to act as seating lube and glue. I did it at the end of the season and didn't get a chance finish running the experiment. Seems like screws bead locks are the norm. What do you run?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Solid SBC Heads
« on: October 07, 2015, 05:39:35 PM »
I recently purchased a set of used Brodix -12 Solid heads. Frankenstein Cylinder Head Works has done a ton of port work on these heads They flow  over 40 CFM more than my old - 12 water heads. I was running a gravity / static non circulating water system on the old heads. I'm new to running a solid dry head. I was thinking of plumbing a water line between the center exhaust ports. Is it necessary?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / sbc HP per cubic inch
« on: September 20, 2015, 06:49:02 AM »
Matt
Many variables but in your years of dyno sessions have you seen any patterns develop as to best sbc bore stroke (sweet spot).
I've been making 700hp @ 6000 RPM. 4.125 bore X 4.00 stoke. My set up needs 750hp @ 7500 RPM. My new heads and cam will get me there.
Going to freshen up a bit in the off season. Just wondering if I need to re invent the wheel bore and stroke wise or if the 434 chev is still a good choice for this range? Thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / What "Bamboozeled" you at the last race?
« on: August 18, 2015, 05:02:50 AM »
On my second pass I let go of the button and stuck good. The fed hiked the front wheels higher than it should have. I really had the "this is gonna be a good pass kind if feeling". 2 seconds later the air shifter fails second gear. It starts to rain at the turn off and I have to go home with my tail between my legs. Dang the bad luck!
