How old are the plug wires? The BBC blown T/S car I help on had a issue with a cylinder not firing consistently.  We ohmed the wires twice and all was good. We chased it for two days...even put my whole ignition system on it...but not the wires...and still had the problem. As a last resort we put a spare set of wires I had on it and fixed it!!!!!

I keep my battery on an automatic trickle charger (battery tender) at all times. Never have to worry about state of charge.   Bought a set of wheel dollies to spin the car around then the pit are tight. At the end of the day while the motor is hot I put a shop vac in the valve cover oil fill hole and draw cool air through the motor to cool it down and to avoid any alcohol or water condensation back into the oil.
I did the vacuum deal at the valve covers (suck thru engine) untill one day a spark from the motor ignited the fumes from the engine and I had a vacuum that looked like a jet engine !!!!!
Reverse the hoses and blow thru the engine.

A friend of mine is looking to buy a SBC blower intake with burst panel.
Is there one with longer runners to keep fuel distribution more even?

I use an old crock pot...cheap garage sale item. Get it up to 170 or so and the alky will bubble out. While it is HOT I run it thru a very fine screen into a clean container. Still flows slow but if it wasn't hot it would probably take a week!!!

Drag Racing / Re: tire shake ideas?

Longer...lower wheelie bar would help (single wheel). It is jumping up at the hit...on the wheelie bar...then the bar slams it back down ect.
Not sure where you are with tire pressure....but 10 lbs might fix it...you NEED wheel speed, not spinning...just not wadding the tire up.
If 10 fixes it...try 9.5...then 9 until the problem comes back, then you know your tire pressure for those tires on that car.

A lot depends on trans gear and rear gear. My altered has 1.69 1st gear and 3.89 rear gear. If I leave at idle it will shake the crap out of the car!!!   My advice is to start with a high launch rpm and work your way down to find the sweet spot.

Thanks Spud........I was going to try it but I'm missing the correct inlet fitting......
So now I think I will just send both of the pumps to you after I get back to Havasu.

Spud Miller's Cave / Enderle fuel pumps
« on: October 04, 2017, 07:02:38 AM »
Hi Spud !!!!!
My present fuel pump is a Enderle 110 vane style. 12.4 gpm
I have a Enderle SG810 (110 equivalent) 13gpm spur gear style that I would like to run on the race car.
I know I have to account for the larger GPM in the tune up.....my questions are:
Does the gear pump move fuel at a different rate thru out the rpm range...do I need to worry about that? and the pressures that may come along with that?
Does the gear pump "suck" better......maybe less susceptible to the air bubble when hitting the chutes?
Thoughts on each ?
Thanks again for all you do !!!
Steve

I have mine on the output side of the K-valve. I want to know what pressure the nozzles and poppets  are seeing.
