Front Engine Dragsters / Transmission ratio question.........
« on: March 06, 2017, 05:03:59 PM »
It's time to upgrade my stock case PowerGlide with a new aftermarket unit.  I have a blown alky SBC making about 800 with current tune. I may bump it up, sometime in the future.  I have 33" tires, 4.30 gears and a converter that stalls 5400 on the brake. My current trans. has a 1.76 low gear. I'm wondering if I should get the 1.80 or 1.69 low gear.  My trans builder says the 1.80's are stronger but I'm wondering if that will be a factor in such a light car.

Front Engine Dragsters / Me too "finally made a pass"
« on: November 15, 2016, 05:45:11 PM »
At I-22 Motorsports Park last Saturday's charity event.  Finally the weather is nice, no excuses I could think of, so I took the dragster. I'd made all kinds of changes.  Changed the rear gear and converter and went from 10 over to 10 under on the blower, added some weight to the nose and a little spoiler on the front axle. SOoo I didn't know what it would do. I made a couple of easy shakedown trips (just to get myself comfortable) and then did a good burnout. Launched off idle (foot brake) and had a 1.12 sixty' and went 4.89 @ 133.
Accidentally deep staged and I think I lifted about 60' short of the finish line. I was so surprised at making a pretty good pass that I didn't know what to do. 8)

Front Engine Dragsters / Oil pumps for SBC
« on: April 22, 2014, 04:07:14 PM »
Finally started my blown Alky small block and the oil pressure is just not up to par, 40 psi cold, decreasing as it warms up  :o. Clearances are .0035 on both rods and mains, (GRP aluminum rods). Who's making the best oil pumps and if you have a similar engine/clearances what pressure do you have?

Front Engine Dragsters / Non-believers

Why are so many people scared of FEDs. What are your favorite comments about why they don't want to drive one? 8)

Front Engine Dragsters / What scares unbelievers most about your FED?

:P They always say, "I don't like sitting on top of that rear end housing". I tell them "I just take both hands and put my left one over there and then I take both hands and put my right one over there, then you're all set". They reply, "mine ain't that big". Maybe thats their problem? 8)

Front Engine Dragsters / Introduction
« on: February 11, 2013, 05:52:36 PM »
New old guy 61 y.o. Allan Faulkner, Jasper, AL. Retired USAF. Current car is a 186" FED built by Foy Gilmore in the late 90s. Have a blown SBC almost ready to drop in and a new 200" chassis under construction. Glad to see this forum getting going, just found it yesterday on the HAMB.
