Front Engine Dragsters / front suspension
« on: October 11, 2014, 02:34:49 AM »
going to change the front of my 150" FED from fixed to a sprung front end. This is due to the track where I run at is not very smooth.
I remember seeing a scan of an article that I think was from the 60's, that showed how they built a torsion front end using a spring from a VW the type with 3 bot flanges on the end

now I can't find it anywhere. tried the search function as well as google.
 anyone know of this article?

want to have a go at building one rather than buying

if anyone has pics of there front suspension in bits

whats peoples thoughts on this type of setup

its not this article by the way http://wediditforlove.com/techtalk18.html

Front Engine Dragsters / home made tube shifter
« on: November 24, 2013, 01:15:12 PM »
came up my own version of a tube type shifter out of scrap i had lying about the garage.

used a section of 80's mustang column to provide the outer and inner parts

used the double d section as well as it matching outer section

on the inner section i welded a small section of square bar. this will be the reverse lock out

i cut a corresponding slot in the outer tube for the square bar to slide in to

welded on an end plate that mounts a spring loaded lever

the lever stops the shifter pulling into reverse

slotted the end to fit a ball joint. welded it to the column bracket on the top of the axle case

using tube to connect shifter to bracket on the box with ball joints at either end

the cockpit end will have a shift knob fitted

still not completely finished but it seems to work OK. does require both hands to select reverse but i can live with that

Roo Man's Room / 9" coupler
« on: September 27, 2013, 11:17:14 AM »
Got a stock 9" center that I tried to fit a strange engineering coupler, but it must be shorter than a standard yoke (mine never came with one) so it won't reach the bearings or maybe even the front seal. Do I need some sort of spacer  or a different pinion support

Is there a guide how to set these up? Fancy having a go myself

Front Engine Dragsters / Harness mounting
« on: June 18, 2013, 02:38:10 PM »
How have you mounted your lap harness belts. Where I want to weld the fastening plate to the chassis the webbing is almost vertical, but to get it more at 45deg it would mount almost the center of my back where the shoulder mounts are.

looking for ideas for pedals and other items within the cockpit.

what gauges, idiot lights and other items have you got in your FED

fabricated items rather than bought re pedals, living in the UK don't have the same access to supliers and Junkyards

while i'm still putting together my car, i'm just wondering what times it will run. so it got me thinking what times others are running

so why don't you post your times, details of your car (engine, trans, rear ratio & tyre diameter) and any other info you think people might be interested in
