Spud Miller's Cave / Motor dies
« on: May 13, 2017, 06:23:09 PM »
Spud,
we took the dragster out today for some shake down runs. we changed lots of things based on your great calculator thanks, it helped alot! But  after a semi hard burn out the motor quit  reprimed it, fired right back up did a great pass but at the end of the track it died again.

we have two vents, one in the  front and one in the back, on the top
7 gal tank with the pickup on the bottom, 1 inch tube, about 8 inch long, with the bottom scalloped
we think the fuel might be sloshing around in the tank uncovering the back of the pick up tube the scalloped part.
our plan before the next test was to put a trap door in side the tank

we would like your thoughts !

is there is something stupid we are missing or over looking

YES the tank was full of fuel !!  ;D

we made 3 passes on this motor last year before the cam went south and it did the same thing
so we still have the same issues or some thing still wrong
thanks for your time
steve m
ps is it vacation time yet ?

have oil coming out of the first rockers on both sides rear ones back of the motor
primed the motor about 20mins even turn the motor over
CAN NOT GET OIL OUT OF THE REST OF THE ROCKERS
THOUGHTS,
last cam bearing wrong
is it just filling the lifters up (solid lifters)
wrong lifters
just prime it longer

OR

« on: July 25, 2016, 02:09:00 PM »
somebody posted about putting their puke tank hoses off the intake! (could not find the post but not very old) we did the same thing and it did not work on our car, we lost 2 qt to the puke tank >:( plus 2 cans of brake clean, 3 roller of paper towers, 1.5hrs cleaning it up, we think about 3 qts total loss.
this is a bbc with a wet sump
on the good side, the first full pass on the new car we were looking for 9.0 150 mph    8)    it went 9.007 143 and change  :o :o :o :o

Spud Miller's Cave / INDEXING A BARROL VALVE
« on: July 17, 2016, 06:39:50 AM »
Went indexing  a barrel valve can you index with the wrong rotation? i set the valve at 28% leak with the rotation pulling to the left looking at the barrel valve from the drivers seat. ( right to left) why i ask is i was playing with the secondary bypass outlet thinking about use it to help staging the car. when i put pressure to the valve, (100 psi) the secondary (open) it had about 10 %  more leak. 38%. but when you just move the the barrel valve maybe 1/16 of a inch the secondary closes. it not near 1/4 or 1/2 wot.
hope you can understand my question.   old Hilborn stack injection bbc

always thanks you your time
