« on: January 18, 2019, 03:01:33 AM »
I've heard of people using drill batteries but what the ?? I'm looking for info on how my power a Transbrake uses. Current draw (Amps?) I have a battery retailer not far away that has 12V  batteries that are externally the size of a cigarette pack. What do I need ?

Front Engine Dragsters / Chute weight.
« on: January 11, 2019, 07:32:19 PM »
Hey.
Has anyone got a 4 line chute and pack off their car at the minute they could drop on their wife's bathroom scales please. Just looking what I don't need to save a bit of weight. So far it's - wheelie bars, battery, sundry wiring, a couple of cables, lead on the nose and get the hole saw out into the gas pedal and sundry brackets. I reckon there's a hundred pounds there with the chute. I hit 200 on the scales last week so I know I can knock 20 off that.  I've just gone to a 12" rear disc so don't reckon I need the chute and hoping I can balance the launch with better use of a little weight on the nose. 120 pounds has to be worth something.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Will this hurt my trans
« on: December 25, 2018, 06:32:58 PM »
Hey there knowledgeable folk.
Unlike most here I run a 904 TF with a 2.45 st gear 1.45nd gear. I have a 4.3 rear and run 1/8 mile. No I don't want to go to a Power Glide
(from here in know as a taxi cab transmission lol).  Bloody thing is violent off the line and at times hits the wheelie bars and unloads the tyres throwing me off the accelerator. Thinking if I leave off the brake in second gear I can get rid of my wheelie bars and 45 lbs of lead off the nose and the weight of the battery if I go to a remote battery again. I know it will be now lazy off the line but should mile an hour higher than it ET's (if that makes sense?) and as I run dial in type racing the slower ET compared to MPH might even help?

Will I kill my Torque-flight leaving in second gear?
Cheers and Happy Christmas

Drag Racing / Where do I have a rant ? Here?
« on: December 18, 2018, 03:07:41 AM »
Howdy.
I'm on the other side of the globe from most of you (Australia) where we have a culture of mateship, helping each other out and giving people a fair go. I'm pissed off (we also tell it like it is without trying to sound PC for fear of offending someone).  I have a Mate who's 79, a great bloke who built at home and raced a top fuel car out of his own blue collar pocket in the mid 1970's, he's the first to help turn something up, mill it down and just fabricate everything for anyone, he built a planetary transmission for his fuel car using the gear set from a 727 TF, made full floating hubs for rear ends using front wheel drive axle hubs, used a washing machine pump for fuel injection on a home built blown 272 Y block way back in the 1960's. He was crewing on the first 4 second Fuel car here and later sorted NHRA top fuel pilot Richie Crampton's super charged gasser here in Australia before he went to the US to race.  In short he has forgotten more than 10 of us will know in 2 life times and has build more cars for others for nothing than I have fingers to count 'em on
A few years ago he was helping out a guy with a Top Fuel car sort out issues - he thinks they're mates. The guy hasn't run this car for a few years but has a power tool company sponsor so he does fire up outside a hardware chain stores.  I can't see what else he's doing. He gave my Mate a pair of wire wheels 8 or 9 years ago and he's not flash with spare change so he sold them to me. Now he's saying he want's those wheels he gave him back - reckon they were a loan. My mate is feeling being intimidated by this punk. I'll give them back to him and He'll reimburse me but I want to tell him to Piss off. After giving it some thought I've decided that I want $140 for the tyres and $50 for the bearings from the Top Fuel guy. I'm sure he won't want to pay and that will put a stop to this nonsense but I have no way to contact him and if I tell my old mate I know he won't tell him rather he'll pay me and tell me the other guy did. Ya following.
He just a user and I'm sick of these people taking advantage. Rant over.
Cheers

Wanted to buy / Shallow oil pan SBM
« on: October 20, 2018, 02:58:47 AM »
Hello
Before I cut a perfectly good factory oil pan up I don't suppose any one has a 360 Chrysler oil pan less than the standard 7.25" depth. I keep bashing mine on the ground when I get a bit bouncy. Has to be a point of diminishing returns coming up.

Front Engine Dragsters / Rear gear with a 3 speed
« on: July 14, 2018, 10:56:30 PM »
Just curious to know what rear gears guys with a 3 speed trans are running in a front engine car? I posted this some where else and started a small xxxx fight about why I couldn't or shouldn't use a 3 speed. So if you don't have something more than (in your opinion) I need a 'glide I'm not really interested.

I have a mild injected SBM with a TF 904 (no they don't explode and no they aren't heavy) with a 2.45 first gear and an 8" converted. The car is short at 155".  I have a 4.3 rear with 31" tyre and have to fight with the car off the line. I'm looking to go back to 3.89/3.9 rear gear to soften the launch. Any thoughts on that sort of number?

Roo Man's Room / Basic question
« on: June 19, 2018, 08:02:14 PM »
Hey all.
To keep it off the tyres (which go flat after a few days) I hang my car in the shed on a chain block. Looking for a better idea for jack stands. Does anybody have some pics of some sort of saddles or tubes welding to the bottom of the chassis for jack stand mounts? Something to run the car on would be nice.

Front Engine Dragsters / Photos and info please
« on: April 20, 2018, 05:50:52 PM »
Howdy. I'm going to upgrade and build a new chassis for my car. Still looking to be short 150 -155" but going to have my engine further forward at about 40" out and going to give myself a little extra length behind the rear axle. Any body have photos of an A arm style front end for me to study. Any reason to not go down the A arm path on a short wheel base car. What sort of front track are you  A arm guys running?

Front Engine Dragsters / SWJFA
« on: March 16, 2018, 07:23:43 PM »
Howdy.
I was watching a heap of older SWJFA  roll cage mount Go-pro vids last night - man some of you SWJFA guys must pump some fuel at idle. Tons of header flames while staging. My car has a 80A pump and runs reasonably clean at idle and but with my laid back headers I still get a lung full of crappy air some times. SWJFA is just Methanol right? Got to say they do look great popping and banging away.

Gassers / Strut suspensions

I've seen 33 Willies coupes with strut front suspensions. When did Struts first appear in race cars?

Front Engine Dragsters / Harness dates.
« on: October 26, 2017, 06:11:44 PM »
Howdy. Here is Australia my harness has 10 years from date of manufacture before it needs to be replaced. I have just purchased an RCI 5 point how ever they no longer have a DOM rather a 2 year expiration date (in this case Dec 2019). Any idea why they have made this change ? No clue on their web site.

Spud Miller's Cave / Fuel at cranking speed
« on: August 19, 2017, 05:12:04 PM »
Hello
How much fuel should an 80A-1 deliver at cranking speed with one fully charged 12v Battery? I last ran my car at Easter no probs put it away now can't fire it while checking it over for next week-end. The pump is flooded by the tank, the line from the pump blows through Okay but it doesn't deliver any fuel at cranking speed? Pump has done 12 eighth mile passes from new.

Will one of those adjustable 12 volt led shift lights pick up a pulse from the earth terminal of an old internal coil Vertex mag.

Spud Miller's Cave / Viton O-rings
« on: June 29, 2017, 07:10:40 PM »
Howdy
I've just bought a one way check valve which has Viton O-rings to fit to the top of my fuel pump to keep the system primed for ease of starting. Are Viton O-rings okay for use with Methanol fuel or should they be replaced with something else.
Cheers
Tony
