Front Engine Dragsters / Re: cooling the fed
« on: February 05, 2013, 06:53:01 PM »
Right from the get go I knew I wanted to cool the engine so that I could run laps.

To that end I have a pump and a radiator

The first year out when I was running in the 9's it work quite well

Last year we stepped the HP up and to keep it cool and be able to run from the pits to the line, make a run and drive back to the pits we had to convert to alky (through a carb, not much of a change). With that set up it takes about 10 minutes in the pits with the pump and fan running to cool it all the way down to make another run. In my opinion worth it.

Now I'm going to a blown application with mechanical fuel injection and I'm going to keep the cooling system

I have taken some heat because of the extra weight it adds, and it's just not the "normal" way, but I like how convenient it is.

Believe it or not I found some more.

Before you start to wonder about me I am not a stocker, the camera is never far from me, I have thousands of pictures.

Oh yes and this was another club racing night and another win for Rochester Street Rods

This is what our 497ci engine looked like back in 2009.
We are building a new one now and I will try to post when I can.

It is interesting what sparks a memory.

I was thinking surely I can find another picture of this engine (ask Matt to talk about the setup in the dragster) and I did.

This picture came from a Club Racing event that Matt of Pro-Formance Specialties http://www.pro-formancespecialties.com/ sponsors out at Empire Dragway. Anyway finding that picture brought the whole night back.

Seeing his dragster gave me the bug to get one myself.

and here is the man himself

anyway, back then I still was running a door car (that engine is now in the dragster (with some mods))

and that evening I had a little run in with a bird, the bird lost

but it was a good evening as out club (Rochester Street Rods) won the event.

Just a little insight into two members here.

I know Mark has seen this before , but here are two Pontiac powerd FEDs side by side

Published on Aug 20, 2012

A very rare site - 2 very similar looking FEDs and they both are powered by Big Block Pontiac engines. When was the last time you saw 2 of these nostalgia front engine dragsters side by side with Pontiac power ?? Here it is.

It does not feel like we made much progress this weekend. Tom was over and so were both of my sons. Number one son stayed behind the camera so I have no pictures of him, but I did get a picture of the number two son.

We started like this

and ended like this

In between those two the blower bag is back from DJ so we the blower bag back on with the modifications made by DJ it fits now.

Installed the rear restraint strap bracket.

Made a bracket to hold the fill can for the coolant system

it came out pretty nice

There is a complete update on my web site at this link
http://www.leverfamilysite.com/2010_Front_Engine_Dragster_Week_2013_02_02.htm

and the complete build from the first tube cut to now can be seen here
http://www.leverfamilysite.com/2010_Front_Engine_Dragster_Root.htm

along with some u-tube videos of it running down the track

Nice i wish my neighbors were as nice every time I fire it up the cops show up. I done when they arrive so they just leave again.

Mine does not fit in thegarage so I had to cut a hole in the wall and the front wheels sit out on the back porch.

I could lose 50, latly all I'm doing is adding weight to the FED, bracket here, intake there, blower here, injection hat there.

Here is a picture of another dragster (I know, engine in the wrong location)

We have a rear engine board here also, we do not discriminate. Keep us up to date. Welcome aboard.
