Roo Man's Room / Mopar alloy 8 3/4 idenity ?
« on: July 06, 2017, 07:05:55 AM »
I have an alloy Mopar 8 3/4" housing. I expect is quite old. It broke and was replaced by an iron unit several years ago. It is stamped above the fill plug 61400 and 4661/ 2380. The 2380 may be 2390 as the stamp isn't quite complete. I would appreciate any information. Thank you. George

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Piston ring end gap.
« on: January 19, 2016, 05:07:38 PM »
Matt, what would be your preference for piston ring gap? Our combination is a fully filled Dart LIL M with Dart 230 cast iron heads running with no coolant in a FED. It's a 6:71 with a Bug running alky thru hat nozzles only. It's wet sump system with a System One remotely mounted so I run 10 quarts and we will be adding a Accusump to add even more oil ( cooling ?). It's been together for 2 years and have had no ring or piston (Venolia) issues. They are a 16-16-316 ring package. It's time for a freshening . I'm thinking we can tighten up the gap that is now at .026 .
We run almost all 1/8 mile and don't spin it more than +16%

Thanks . George

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Crankshaft for SBC blower combo.

Any experience here with Ohio crankshaft? I looked at a PN 4350348Bb at the PRI show. A package deal might be in the works?

Thank you. George

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Gear drive harmonics
« on: August 02, 2015, 01:37:58 PM »
I ran a 355 stack injected SBC for several years with a double roller chain timing set. Last year we decided to go with a blown combination and I stayed with the chain. After an additional 30 runs we took the engine apart and found the chain had stretched a good deal so I bought a Donovan gear drive. The gear drive is a well built piece but we are having an issue with bolts vibrating loose on the timing cover. I feel certain we have a harmonic associated with the gear drive . I am going to take it apart soon but other than studs and red locktite what should I do or look for? I do run a standard dia. crank snout with a outboard bearing support. Even if I can keep the cover from coming loose , I'm concerned about crank and bearing longevity.   Thank you . George

I ordered a piece of aluminum 6061-T6 for a new mid plate and it is 6061-T651. I have looked online and don't think there is a problem but it's something I haven't seen before. Any problems associated with this material?

Thank You. George
