Spud Miller's Cave / Re: fuel use per pass MFI

358 SBC a little over 500hp about a gallon for 1/8th mile.
When we ran quarter mile closer to 11/2 gallons with a long shut down.
I have a 5 gallon tank that saved me a couple time I forgot to put fuel in.

It was like that when I bought the car but your right and I avoided turning it without it moving. I think taking about 15 degrees of caster out helped also.
When I opened mine up it was the sector pin wobbling around in the arm.

I was told by my chassis guy to avoid turning the car at rest by cranking on the steering wheel as it puts undue stress on the steering box guts. I try to turn it by grabbing the front tire - or roll the car slightly while turning it.

When I opened mine up it was the sector pin wobbling around in the arm. Just had to repair the hole in the arm and it was all good after that.
I did buy parts from Mark Williams at the time but I dont see them listed any more.
Guess machining a new worm would be same work as re-machining  it.Yea joking there. I do machine work but not setup for all of that tool wise. While new one is pretty expensive, not so much compared to building new front end.LOL

If you do the Diamond style and have a front overhang, chances are you will break out if you use the breaks at the finish line.

I found that the Felpro Printoseal gaskets fit best in the garbage can.

The one difference I do know of is Reid has an adjustment for the brake release. You can take some of the initial hit out of it.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Can a mild steel FED get certified to 7.50
« on: September 03, 2020, 08:05:27 PM »
If it meets the spec it certifies. IHRA rule book lists both Chrome Moly and Mild Steel as acceptable materials.
Depending on how slow you may not need a cert.
Slower than 9.00 in the quarter, 6.00 in the eighth or under 150 you dont need a cert for IHRA>

What would be the minimum pilot engagement into the end of the crankshaft?
That's what lines everything up.

To expand on Jeff/21s idea.
Clamshells on the end of a tube and hose clamp them on.
Should be good enough for a test.
Especially if you could come up with aircraft style clamps.

French,
Thanks. I did see others saying that too.
I dont remember it doing it before I went through it. But it could have.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Wheels rotate in neutral
« on: July 29, 2020, 06:37:02 PM »
Dan,
With the car on stands the wheels rotate in neutral. I can stop them pretty easily with my hand.
I had it apart and changed the band and drum. Did I get the high clutch too tight?
I adjusted the cable in high gear and the pin slides in perfectly,  all gears and brake seem fine. Should I favor neutral a little on the adjustment?
Thanks for any advice. BK

If you could add a few degrees of caster easily it couldn't hurt.
The other thing you could check is toe in.
Make sure to spread the front or pull the back of the wheels together to make sure any play cant go past your setting.

I've heard of adjustable cables in rear engine cars.
What are they for and is it anything that might help your problem?

I just let air out of slicks until it stopped bouncing.

Gassers / Re: Foot braking, what works best for you guys?

With a fast reacting car I would just leave from an idle.
With a slower car I would prestage bring RPM to what ever I felt would give me a good reaction time and then bump in.
