Hello Guys:)

What is the best type/brand of Silicon/liquid gasket?
I have tried a couple, PM and Wurth RTV. The PM are desolving when exposed to methanol and Oil mix. The RTV seals, but the parts are hard to take appart( to much glue).

Front Engine Dragsters / Engine oil recycle / Tire recommedation
« on: July 27, 2014, 12:54:26 PM »
Hello Guys:)
Just wander if you guys recycle Your engine oil from Your dragster? So far I change oil after 2-3 rounds, Depends on how much start-up's we do.
After a race I heat the oil to about 190-220 degrees, for about 15 min. Then all the water and Alky should evaporate. I run the warm Oils through a oilfilter, then add a couple of New quarts to about 6 quarts of recycled oil. Anybody els here do something like this?

Also, my current frontrunners are 2.75x19" Avon speedmasters. Look like Avon only has 3.00x19 now, but I really would like somthing skinny on my Borrani Wheels. Is there a good looking 2.75x19 out there?

Front Engine Dragsters / Sidewinder Flathead FED
« on: July 22, 2014, 08:55:05 AM »
Hello Guys:) Have been busy for a while:) The Sidewinder have been out twice this year With some improvements.
After last years season, we desided to update the pulley system as we wanted to gir for more OD, now we have 52% OD:)
At the same time we raised the CR. to about 9.3:1. The engine sounds very different;) more agressive.
We have managed to set a New PB, 9.89 sec ET and a speed of 211 km/t. On the latest race we got a better 1/8 mile et and higher speed, 5,9 sec and 180 km/t. But on this run we broke the blower axle just after the 1/8th mile.
Everything is fixed now, and got a ETC limiter too. Hope we will get it Down in the mid 9 sec ET's:)?

Hello Spud:)

Is there a chart converting Hilborn nozzles flow to areal?
I found one chart, but does not show lager nozzles.
I like to know areal size for Hilborn 64A nozzles.

Spud Miller's Cave / Vertex/Hunt magneto
« on: July 07, 2013, 01:16:42 PM »
Hello Spud.
As I have mentioned before in my previous thread, I have a Hunt magneto that the papers said "20 degrees on crank". You helped me a lot as I didn't know I had to add that on my static advance. After testing the dragster, it is abit dead on the starting-line. One person said I would be better off If I had a fixed magneto.
What do you think? And is there a way fore me to take the magneto apart and modify it? Sorry no Magneto service around here:)

Hello

I have posted this another forum, and I think this might be interesting for you!?
Just wanted to share some info I got from a friend.
SSAB is soon releasing new type of certified tubes for racing chassis.
As I understad the new type has better characteristics than the current chrome molly. It looks like the price will be abit lower than CM, over here anyway. Maybe the price will be the same for you guys.
The new type is called DOCOL R8.
The tolerances are far better than CM, and it is also easier to work with.
They will be ready to take orders within may this year

Hello Spud:)
I have a new rebuilt Hunt/Vertex magneto. Have used an Autometer revlimiter (setup for safety reason high rpm), and one signal converter for the
shift-lite. I have also mounted an old NOS Sun tach. The trouble is that I don't get the reading right. I know I have to insulate the magneto signals.
The killswitch lead, goes through a flexi steel hose that are grounded all the way to the rev-limiter. But the wire from the Rev-limiter to the killswitch in the cocpit are not shielded in any way, and it lays near the cables to the tach and shift-lite. The shift-lite works fine, but not the tach.
Do you know if a second signal-converter will help, so there will be one for the tach and one for the shift-lite?
Or would this load the magneto to much, thus weaker spark?

As I have not used a magneto before, I'm a litle confused;) With the papers that followd the magneto, it says "20 degrees on crank"!?
What does that meen?

Rookie from overseas;)

Front Engine Dragsters / Making a intake manifold for my 4-71 blower
« on: March 04, 2013, 02:43:39 PM »
We was very pleased after todays workshop
Got a good start making the new manifold for my flathead.
Next up is for me to grind the portholes smooth and to match the block.
Roger is gona make a 1 1/2" tall plenum with the pop-off/burstpanel pointing forward this time
After we have fitted the plenum, we'r gona make the bracket for the blower-belt tensioner. We also need to make some supports for it and for the plenum. Last is to make holes for oil filler and breathers.
Have gotten some heads-up regarding port nozzles, so we'r gona make provitions for them

Front Engine Dragsters / Vintage racing in Scandinavia
« on: February 09, 2013, 09:01:02 AM »
Vintage racing over here is groving each day. New builds and restorations, and also new people buying cars from the US.
We are just about to finish new rules/guidelines for this type of racing.
Our goal is to certify old chassis that don't meet the SFI rules. I know most of these cars are cackle cars in the US, but we wan't to run them.
Safety is important, but in some cases there are cars that in our opinion could certify.
Take a look at www.svda.se
