Title: 9" coupler
Post by: mfp-66 on September 27, 2013, 11:17:14 AM
Got a stock 9" center that I tried to fit a strange engineering coupler, but it must be shorter than a standard yoke (mine never came with one) so it won't reach the bearings or maybe even the front seal. Do I need some sort of spacer  or a different pinion support

Is there a guide how to set these up? Fancy having a go myself

I think you are going to need an aftermarket pinion support . You can get one from Jeg's or Summit pretty cheap . If you have a dial indicator and some patience you can do it yourself .

Any idea which pinion support as there are so many to choose from.

Already got the dial gauge

Does the couple have any part numbers so that we can determine exactly what application it is for?

I finally got time to check the Strange catalog and that is the correct coupler for a 28 spline pinion. They have a range of pinion supports and bearing/spacer kits depending on how strong you need the final package to be.

www.strangeengineering.net     Look around page 35-36 in the catalog.

Which would you recommend I do go for, a spacer or spend a little more and get a pinion support?

I suppose if I build it for more hp than I have now it will be sorted for later on

Oops, I think the spacer goes inside the pinion support. Looks like I'm buying a new pinion support
