Hey Dave, Keith is talking about my car.  Not fully sure what the devastating issue is with the lightening holes in the pan under my feet.  I guess it does let the sand in on the return road.  Can't say I see mine as a kit car, but I suppose from the on looker the major parts did come from John over the coarse of 2 years.  but at the end of the day I have the same amount of $$ into my Miller Tig welder than the chassis.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Car done truck died
« on: October 18, 2014, 08:30:50 AM »
Well this topic will be interesting  :D here was my thought process When I was is in the market last year I looked at gas diesel truck and suburbans.  By far a 3/4 ton is a must a 5.3 in our tahoe has plenty of power to pull my 26 ft enclosed. However the stability and braking is marginal.  So 3/4 at a minimum.

The power of a diesel is by far the best but given 4 trips and the initial cost and maintenance I am not impatient that every incline requires 80mph hold.  So back to gas.

In the GM world this leaves 2 choices 6.0 or 8.1.  I found the 8.1 sits right between the Xmas and 6.0 for power. Withth a cost advantage over the Dmax and power over the 6.0. Also found that the fuel mileage is better overall than the 6.0.

At the end of the day have by a family and a tag trailer pushed me to yukon xl 2500 with 8.1  i have the 4l80e but there was an Allison option.

Again this was my tbought process. I did like look at dodge and ford. A diesel excursion would have been great but wast able to locate one that fit the bill.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: trailer floor space
« on: September 23, 2014, 07:21:57 AM »
Excellent thanks for the ideas.  the cart has a fold down "boat style" top so the height is the steering wheel.  I really like the idea of the platform since it would only need to be as high as Johns front spokes(hate to bend or scuff them), call it 24" with clearance.  little concerned with the fore/aft strength of the E-track Shoring beams.

If I raise the dragster up obviously support the front tires.  Then just one support in the center?  just in front of the engine?

a Truck would be too easy - I have a 3/4 ton Yukon

Front Engine Dragsters / trailer floor space
« on: September 22, 2014, 10:26:07 AM »
so here is the problem.  My Fed, daughters Jr and golf cart don't fit in the floor space of my 26 foot enclosed trailer (6.5 ft interior).  Yes I know buy a bigger trailer and that would be great, but not at this time.  I am looking for some good ideas on how to package the three items in the trailer.  Love to see some photos on how this can/is being done by others.

My first thoughts are to either lift the nose of the Fed or put the golf cart on a removable platform over the cars.

for what it is worth, I use 33x10.5W, M/T's  which are used from a 7 second, 2700# door slammer.  on my 180", 1480# sbc dragster I pull 1.20 60 ft leaving in High gear.  I feel they are good on bite and consistant. car has been running with in .05 over the course of full day with no changes except weather.

I was told that same rule of thumb and it is working for me.  just ran 158 with 15deg.  I am pretty sure I could have run hands off the wheel the full lengthen.

Dave that is GREAT.  I can see the look on your face even.   I ran my Worm car at Route 66 lost 9.0 index in the Semi Finals.  Ran 9.03 to 9.08 all day.  Sure wish John would have designed a better Driver as this one hit terrible lights.   ;)

Spud has a calculator on his site as well and I would certainly give him a ring.  Excellent guy to talk with and has solid information and not laced with arrogant opinion.

is there a website for the cordless drill adapter.  I am not finding when searching under Mike Berry.  Also are does the unit step the voltage down to 12 volts from 18 volt??

Cage is looking good.  with the extra diagonal bar by the axle bracket can you remove the axle from the chassis with cutting a bar out?

as said bleed with the top bleeders only.  if the master is lower than the calipers you may need a 2 psi residual valve.

I have bought a few things from them direct and from Motor State (distributorship).  I have been on there website to access the catalog and then called direct, sales guy was very helpful.  My last purchase was their throttle cables, very nice.
