Just recieved my gear set. All nice and new and ready to go in.

I am running a glide with a 1.76 and have a 30 x 10 tire. Motor is fully balanced and printed 355 with  built aluminum heads used to run it at 7000rpm in my truck  but not that crazy anymore and going to alcohol with it now. would like to keep the rpms to 6000 for starters, 5000 stall in convertor has a brake but not sure if I will use it at the beginning, not quite sure of the car weight but a pretty basic fed. I am new to all of this just hoping to find a happy medium in the gears, will buy a pro gear set with large stem pro gear pinion, parts are all too close to my privates to buy brown paper gears as I already had cancer down there and don't want to lose them now to cheap parts. But not quite sure of which set to start with. Novice to all of this.

Front Engine Dragsters / What is everyone using for as a gear ratio
« on: April 23, 2014, 06:01:20 AM »
Looking at purchasing a complete center section from Strange and have used all the calculators and have a bit of confusion. don't want to rev too high and been talking to some of the local racers and debating between a 3.89 and a 4.11. Just running a small block 355 alcohol injected with aspirations of maybe some nitro someday and wondering what is common for a ratio.

I finally got my car rolling, was a while but it is done now. Had to mount the intake on the block just to get the right feeling. Looking forward for the rest of the build.

Been working away on my chassis, finally got the roll bar done and been welding away on the chassis.

Wow thanks for everyone for the quick replies. Jon I will contact you the rims I need will be for my fed, I think I will go with the 17" I like the chrome and it looks like weight will not be a issue but I will contact you later on in the week on what is best for me. thanks again for all the help.

Front Engine Dragsters / Front Rims

I'm looking at purchasing my front rims and was wondering the preference between aluminum and steel, which is better for my application? or on a fed . Also where would be the best place to get them from. I have Stilletto Anglia spindles .

Front Engine Dragsters / Another question on attaching the front axle.
« on: January 03, 2014, 01:58:58 PM »
I was reading to the regulations and could not find anything on attaching my front axle. my kit has a 2 1/2" saddle which is to be welded to the front bars. I found some stuff on the web  from the hamb and it looks like it makes sense.
 Quote"
At the point where the end of the frame rails meet the top centerline of the front axle it should be 2.25-2.5" wide so that you have material encompassing 180* of the axle half tube mount and heat the ends and tap them down (taper) to finish welding. If you try and fit the tubes smaller (1.75")your fit will be very long and require a whole bunch of welding whereas with going wider you may only have 10-11 inches instead of 20-22 inches. Lots of tacks and start in the back where the rails first meet and weld towards the front.

my front bars are 1.50" and it will be around 8" of the two bisecting, is this strong enough?

Also I was wondering and discussing with my buddy who is also building a fed, is a 200" inch fed much more stable than a 180" fed. does 20" really make that much of a difference.

Front Engine Dragsters / Cockpit. Bracing
« on: December 31, 2013, 11:37:57 AM »
Been working away on my fed kit and have a couple of questions for the wise. On my kitchen idney bars the kit came with a single vertical brace and I was checking with the. Nhra. Regs and they say you can use a k style brace of 3/4" tube also. I have a couple of pics of what I want to do. Also I wonder if it is worth putting the other  vertical brace in above th rearend. I know these are simple questions but I would like to beef up the drivers compartment and already have the tubing. Just wondering if it would be worthwhile to do both.

Front Engine Dragsters / Greetings from Canada

Thanks for letting me join the forum, I have been looking at building a fed for a while now, but have had a hard time securing proper materials where we are. So a couple of weeks ago my buddy and I ordered a couple of fed chassis kits from S and W and are going to get started. We both have built several show hot rods and are experienced fitters and welders and are awaiting our kits to be ready for us. I have been following the site for a while and am amazed by the knowledge available here. Thanks again.
