Altereds / Re: What did you do on your Altered TODAY?

We made the drive to Bunker Hill dragway in Indiana Friday. Its Indianas first drag strip opening in 1956, and also the 1st track my 2 dads made their 1st passes at an actual track. It was 1/4 mile until the early 80's but was considered  too short for anything fast with a short shut down. Ive always wanted to take my car there for sentimental sake but its just out of the way and I really have a hard time justifying it when Indianapolis is way closer.

Its a very narrow track with a slim grove, about 1/2 the size of Indy. I decided as I was walking the track with my 2nd dad checking the track condition, and after seeing the look on his face reliving that old track as we walked it. It was probably the best track I could have ran that day, he opened up into a few new stories I had not heard yet, he said the last pass he made there was in 1977  in his funny car. They would not let him run the 1/4 because the car was too fast to get stopped before the corn field, so he cracked off a 4.60 in the 1/8th that day back in 1977.

The track was sticky and very well prepped, my car is slow, ran a 5.90 @ 118 foot breaking the car, but it was a good day for us all. Video below, shaky at first until she sets the camera down.

Now being a display car will this be a running car or an engine that looks like it will run ? I know a guy that's got a couple Hemi blocks, aftermarket blocks used in a funny car in the 70's that have sleeves. But I am just not sure how good the condition is on the blocks.

Outstanding, neither of my sons are interested, and sure which I could get them interested.

You have an awesome track to T&T at.

Its sad My son could not care less about cars, hes into playing music and skating with zero desire for race cars. I think it was a pitty showing just to make me feel good. And T&T at Indy is spectacular. They take great pride in having that track as sticky on any T&T day as they do for the nationals, EMT always sitting at the return road turn off, they are very prepared and very nice people running the track.

Altereds / My great save from a red light video

We had a great night at the track Wednesday, made a few changes to settle the car down it ran slower then normal but in 5 passes it stayed within a few thousands of itself all day. And really it comes down to how consistant the car is that wins races not how fast it went. In this video I had been running .400 pro tree, one yellow then green, the previous 4 passes Wednesday. They stopped running the pro tree unbenounced to me because of the high volume of cars at the track, they were having issues switching back and forth.

I lined up expecting a pro tree but got a sportsman full tree, 3 yellows and then a green. The first yellow lit and I started to launch, but caught they changed the tree to 3 yellows, and stabbed the brake before I red lit. I cant believe I caught the tree had changed and lifted to not red light, of coarse it sure screwed up my reaction time. My reaction time usually is not that great but xxxx my braking foot is awesome. I am thinking about putting the gas pedal on my left foot now.

I was blessed to have my Son and my 2nd dad Denny go with us to the track. Dennys had some 250 MPH funny cars and altered that I named my altered after, so he had a great time reliving some memories. He ended up learning how to ride his first ATV while he was pulling me to the line and back to the pits. And my son has not wanted to go to the track with us for years so I was happy he wanted to go.

Seriously the gym, Ive been thinking about going but am scared I will pull a few more muscles. I can get up off the couch too fast and pull a muscle it seems. I think I will slowly work into something, ive gotta try something thanks for the motivation.

We are a blown alky setup and my wife and I run it. One of my sons helps out sometimes and Steve is around, but basically we are a two person team.

My hats off to you Glenn, we are in our 50,s now and I think the age is slowing us down, at least that is my excuse today.

rooman that is one bad dragster. I kept telling my wife, TAPE THAT CAR ITS GONNA BE FAST, I wish she were brave enough to get closer. Congrats on the 7.04 on a 7.0 index.

Digger its all going to come down to, HOW MUCH MONEY you want to spend, and HOW MUCH HELP can you get to run the car. I know with my slow rinky dink operation its even something I could never do alone. At least 1 person is needed to get it done unless you are a professional athlete by trade, LOL that you are not. Keep it simple and it can be done with 1 extra person to help, make it a BB blown injected alky operation and its a whole new level of money and help needed.

A realistic minimum of 3 extra people to make that happen smooth, 1 to drive the tow and keep it organized, 2 to start the car and get you in the groove after your burnout. Then comes the money part for the extra maintenance. My wife shot this Wednesday, I am driving up behind in my easy on parts low budget car following A mean blown SBC FED, it ran in the high a 6 second # if I read the board right. I cant find anyone to help with my car so its just me and my wife to make it happen, I made my pass and drove back to the trailer.

Heres the car running, man that thing was mean. Sorry the distance from the line to my wife was far, but the sound is all there.

Made it out for a good day. It was license testing day. Had a huge jetting issue going on with all the changes I made through the winter. Major stumble at first, I got it working better but still had a slight stumble at the hit. I also was running foot brake passes, a little trouble with my trans brake solenoid plunger dripping when holding the brake. I still got off a 9.017 @ 154. Since I am only a T&T warrior for the most part so the E.T. license I got is fine for me. It was just the wife and I so it was a long day for us both. Shes a real trooper and I could not have done it without her. Its probably a boring video for a lot here, but its all I got LOL.

Here is a go pro rear view from the right lane that's pretty cool.

I love these pictures, I wish I had been racing back then, I should have been.

Ya me too, we were born just a little too late I guess. Now we can do it in old style better built iron but it just costs 10 times more to do.

I love this picture I had it blown to poster size for my man cave.

A perfect description of drag racing back in the day. People just hanging out, most were friends with the same goal of going faster, having a stress free day.

This car was the cleanest car on the strip, you could eat off any part of this thing.
