Front Engine Dragsters / Not sure whats going on.
« on: July 26, 2016, 06:55:36 AM »
I have my car running again after changing out my latest new motor which only made 6 passes before my oil filter collapsed and starved the engine, not nice. But I seem to have a different problem with my new set up. When i apply the transbrake it seems to starve some power from the MSD box and it takes a second before the motor comes up to speed but only a short sec. I have tried  this without using the trans brake and there is no hesitation at all. My battery may have been a bit low but I've charged it since and have not tried it. Is it possible I was short of some voltage and it caused this or do I have to wire my brake directly into my battery as now it comes off the same main harness?

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / stall speed
« on: February 06, 2016, 09:34:05 AM »
I have a chance to get a ultimate converter for a reasonable price . It has a steel stator and diode sprag and after talking to Lenny there he determined that the stall would be 6200, My new motor is just a hilborn injected 388 sbc with about 560 hp and a redline of 7500. I'm running 430's  with 33 inch wheels in the back and was wondering if this would be too loose. mMy engine guy says it would be alright but what does anyone else run with a similar setup.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Trans brake Problem
« on: January 04, 2016, 06:32:16 PM »
Dan
i have a power glide in my fed built by a local race transmission builder and we have been having a strange problem with the trans brake. The brake is a brand new TSI package we put in last year and it has been doing some strange things. I only ended up using the brake 6 times last year because it would never release quickly, it started off with a delay of 4 seconds when i released it first time and after the next times i tried it it got better to a 2 second delay after releasing it before it took off, we went through it just recently and added heavy springs  and removed a reverse disc hoping it will be better.  We went through everything and everything else looked good inside.Talked to the people at TSI and they had no ideas. I met someone at the track and they said they the same problem and they thought it was the converter but my transmission guru doesn't think so. He has done a lot of transmissions and has never seen this before. we cleaned up the reverse piston and it moves freely. I'm going to try this in the spring and see if this works and if not i will have to change out the brake. have you ever encountered anything like this?

Front Engine Dragsters / Car burped getting too warm
« on: August 09, 2015, 05:28:42 PM »
I was running on a 1/8 mile this weekend and the runs were less than fifteen minutes apart. car got hot on one run and shot a burst of  water out my recovery tank, freaked me out, I though it was spraying  methanol but it was just water. With water in the block should I have it completely closed? What is the best remote water pump to get? I'm considering putting a small rad in it.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Trans bae is releasing way to slow.
« on: August 03, 2015, 07:20:36 AM »
In my car I has a ATI brake and the car has a dozen passes on it, used the brake the firt time off the 7 passs and it held for 4 secs before releasing. Second time even longer. Brake is wired in direct no relay with a Large B and M button. Wondering should I be adjusting my low band or do I have other problems, without the brake foot pedaled it takes off like xxxx.

I just bolted my sfi flex plate on my sbc and noticed that it is fairly tight to the engine plate not giving enough room to bolt the convertor up. Looking online I notice some people sell a spacer for the crank but i'm not sure if this is what I should use. What do most people do or am I doing something wrong?

Spud Miller's Cave / high Speed bypass hookup
« on: July 09, 2014, 11:43:11 AM »
I was wondering if you could hook up the high speed bypass back into the return line just under the fuel pump. Would the suction side of the pump cause the valve to malfunction or not be affected at all because of it.

Front Engine Dragsters / Holes Through Motor Plate.
« on: June 23, 2014, 05:41:33 AM »
I was wondering what guys where doing when running lines such as tranny coolers or wires and cables through the rear engine plate. I have holes through my uprights but they will not be enough to service everything. Do you use bulkhead fittings or is there something else?

Front Engine Dragsters / What is everyone using for as a gear ratio
« on: April 23, 2014, 06:01:20 AM »
Looking at purchasing a complete center section from Strange and have used all the calculators and have a bit of confusion. don't want to rev too high and been talking to some of the local racers and debating between a 3.89 and a 4.11. Just running a small block 355 alcohol injected with aspirations of maybe some nitro someday and wondering what is common for a ratio.
