Every 50 lbs is a tenth in a FED

Fel Pro performance series gaskets also use an internal wire sealing ring - pre flattened. Example: their #1024, which I use on my Ford sixes. Similar V8 part #s abound.

A popular old quote:

In racing you can be fast, cheap and safe.

And on a "nearly totally unrelated" note: Why won't Hoosier get their whitewall logo paint process more under control so the white paint stays INSIDE the lettering on the sidewall. It looks pretty unprofessional to me and sends a message ,"Quality??? Not so much."

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Re: Max hp with 1.82 gear set?

In my six cylinder S/P altered (1.19 sixty, 5.60, 9.00) I saw little performance difference in the 1.82 vs 1.76 ratios. But 1.82s are easily obtainable cheap. I TIG the ends of the six planetary spud shafts to the case with bronze rod to significantly increase the rigidity of the assembly.

I agree - in a bracket car if you go many rounds the trans will get hot enough for smoke to come out the breather. I solved it with a Hayden cooler and a small bilge fan (the type used by roundy-round racers to cool brake rotors). The fan was controlled through a relay and an inline temp sensor set to come on above 155 degrees. About as compact as a school lunchbox. It handled my 5500 stall 8 inch converter fine.

I wonder what 60 psi equates to in FPS/MPH?

Thank you gentlemen. For those of you who are not familiar with me here are a few pics of some of my junk. Apologies to those who are sick of seeing these shots elsewhere on the interweb.

Do you have a 180 degree crank in that 6? It sure has a cool sound!

Actually, since two pistons arrive at TDC at the same time you could just custom grind a camshaft so that the valves on the two paired cylinders (i.e., 16, 52, 34) actuate in unison you would achieve the same effect as a flat plane crank in a V8.

A new replica chassis will have all new (un-rusty) tubing and high quality TIG welds.
Worth it to me.

Did you end up with 20 degrees of caster as originally planned? That seems a little excessive to me and may be problematic for backing up and wheel shimmy. I know I've seen this much on older cars but I think ten degrees would be perfectly OK.

'23T Altered - Logghe Chassis - w/ 300 Ford - Nostalgia Comp racer
'30 L.H. steered RPU - my chassis design - w/ 300 Ford
'33 Willys coupe - my chassis design - w/ 300 Ford
'48 Anglia coupe - my chassis design - w/ 240 Ford
'49 Anglia coupe - currently under construction - w/ 300 Ford
'30s era champ car - currently under construction - w/ crossflow headed Ford 300
Jr/D - w/ I-1 for the grandkids
plus some other V8 junk

I look forward to reading and learning more about altereds and drag racing.

The cars pictured belong to me. I just joined this web site. The orange car is THE LAST LOGGHE altered. It was built by the famed Logghe Stamping Company. I am the original and sole owner. It has always been powered by an inline Ford (300 or 240).

The white car with purple flames was built by me. It was built to compete in the Street Division (Sportman IHRA). In the 1999 - 2000 time era I was in 16 final rounds at my track and won 12 of them. Now my neighbor drives it at select nostalgia events.

Both cars have won season track championships.

I also have several other six-powered hot rods I'll post info about as time permits.

I had an aluminum driveshaft come apart. Blew apart like a hot weenie. Boy howdy I was glad that driveshaft guard did its job as I thumped to a stop.
