Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Piston companies ?
« on: January 21, 2023, 08:48:04 AM »
For custom race pistons who do you use?
We had to pull an order after waiting for a year for our new pistons(that were never started).
I'd like to finish the new engine soon. The 55mm cam is being finished now and then pistons are all I'm waiting on.
Please let me know who is your go to....
Thanks

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Piston rings?
« on: December 25, 2021, 11:39:24 AM »
What are the common composition of rings for an alcohol engine ? Blown or NA.
Finally putting my engine together.
I have two different ring sets here that will work for my 4.500 bore. Just want to see what people here think.
This is a 9000 rpm 11-11.5 compression engine

So who's going this year? We will be there Thursday through Sunday at close.
Our Supercat is one of the cars on display, in the Nostalgia area, making noise. We may run it a few times down the track, will have to see.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Piston questions
« on: May 07, 2020, 06:39:44 PM »
I need to order pistons soon for my next engine.
The specs  solid cast aluminum Buick block no water jackets.
Heads flow 490 cfm. at our cam specs and rocker ratio.
Crank is a 3.750 stroke 7.0" rods
Bore is 4.500
Gasket range .040 to .100
6:71 to start and may move up to an 8:71 later.
Enderle injector and port nozzles on alky.
We are shooting for about 11.5 to 1 compression with the .040 gasket.
This is going in our Supercat FED.
Questions are;
1 how far down for the piston?
2 how far down should the top ring be?
3 what style top dished,  flat, ?
4 should the pistons be coated?

Let me know your thoughts folks.
Thanks
John

Front Engine Dragsters / Oil pumup drive with supercharger?
« on: April 16, 2018, 02:47:37 PM »
Could anyone running a gilmer style oil pump drive and supercharger please show me a few shots of your setups?
We will be running our new Dailey engineering Oil pump/ fuel pump drive on the new supercharged engine and I'm curious. Do people like sandwiching the gilmer pulley between the hub and blower pulley or off of a drive extension in front of the blower pulley?

Spud Miller's Cave / fuel tune difference 1/8 mile vs 1/4 mile
« on: September 03, 2016, 06:45:51 PM »
Is there a difference in a tuneup 1/4 vs1/8 mile if the only change is the distance.
I do use a high speed bypass in 1/4. I was going to block or jet my high speed for racing 1/8 mile this weekend.
We have run a best 1/8 of 4.88 @149. The car is the one in my builds section. The car is set up for 1/4 .
462" iron Buick , 4 port Hilborn  1/2 pump, pg 1.82 , 3.89 rear , 12x33 Hoiser C09. Car is about 1650 race weight.

Thanks for any guidance

Events / racing at Winterport Maine
« on: August 27, 2016, 06:57:14 AM »
Has anyone run their car at the 1/8th mile track at Winterport Maine?
I had run our Wildcat there years ago . I'm running the Supercat FED 9/10 at the Gassah Guys event that they run monthly. I'm really looking forward to it. It's about 20 miles from the new house in Maine.

Let me know if you plan on running or have ever been.

Events / Bowling Green 2015 who's going
« on: April 22, 2015, 06:59:45 PM »
Just wondering who is going and what are you bringing to the event.
We are bringing the 200"Supercat FED. We are running well and have made many changes over the winter. With a few more changes to go before BG. What classes can we enter if we are well into the 7's . Do they run the Heritage rules or are there other options?

So what are you bringing and what class will you run?

Thanks
John
