Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / piston to wall clearance with NA motor
« on: May 23, 2015, 05:36:44 PM »
Wondering what piston to wall most are running with NA motor. I know my blown alky stuff was .010 to .012. Was thinking NA motor is suppose to be little tighter. Going to have to run what I have for while anyway.Just wondering how much extra clearance I may have.

Roo Man's Room / Determining wheelie bar flex
« on: May 18, 2015, 08:31:36 AM »
Just build wheelie bar for fed. Everything lloks good .I was trying to determine how much flex they have after planting wheel. Was trying to figure away to measure how much frontend lift they allowed before starting to unload rear tire. Not even sure it can be figured w/o actually being a run. Started out with wheel 2.25" off floor with car level.Jacked front end up and at 6 to 7" wheel was loaded. Mesuring under axle at housing it looks like at 12" it seemed to be starting to rise, unloading tire some.Just trying to make sure they are stiff enough yet have some flex so as not to cuase unlaoding issue on inital runs.

Question is. Is there away to figure this if so and other than my attempt give details.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / mods needed to make high/low brake
« on: April 26, 2015, 06:21:15 AM »
Just finished doing work on valve body for pro tree brake. Would like to have high/low setup. Seems nobody makes a DIY kit for that. Hate to spend $400 bucks  to get option when I really would like the aluminum valvebody(still working on doing one on mill) at same time hate to spend$500 for aluminum one that does not have high/low option at saem time. Now if had one that was aluminum with high/low I would probably buy in heartbeat.

Yea the option of leaving in high off brake is not a must, but as guy who crewchiefed top alky cars and loved tuning part most .I want it as option. If know of DIY kit or mods needed to make work get up with me and lets talk.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / repair for PG case
« on: April 23, 2015, 02:37:57 PM »
Have a local guy who had a case bored for roller bearing for output . Seems who ever did id either let it move or did not indicate it correctly. Shaft is off center, easy to see whnn tial housing is on and its short shaft.Has to be more than I measured .015 off center or .030 more towards top.

He want me to bore it out, insert sleeve, weld and bore to fit bearing. I would rather just weld it up and remachine.Either way there is very little material left to work with. Told him I would check and see what few others thought would be best repair.Ok best would be new case.

Front Engine Dragsters / tire bigger than 12"
« on: April 22, 2015, 02:14:10 PM »
I know most nostalgia rules require tire 12" wide or less. My deal is little different in its mainly bracket car, runs 482 or 526 ci aluminum Hemi. Not saying I am making tons of power but it should be more than most SBC combo, key word most. I know even TF nostalgia runs on 12's,but for my deal running exactly same number is priority number 1.

I am looking at gettimg a new set of tires for car and have 15x14 weld aluma star wheels. Looking at 15x14x32 MT's 3074S.  I know GY is standard issue for most. LOTS of bracket guys are getting very consistent runs on MT's.
My question is would the 14's be too much for FED. My thoughts little extra tire on questionable track condition should help keep car running same with changing conditions that happen when running 1st round at 12 noon and final close to midnight sometimes.

Front Engine Dragsters / test or wait to final combo
« on: April 17, 2015, 05:40:14 PM »
Car is getting closer to play time, still have few big items to get and having to choose. I can get combo I have together and test car and tune it some or I can wait little longer to get some replacement parts and tune it for more finalized setup.

Main item that will change is cam.Present cam is 296-500 crane(296@.050) and cam I think it needs is 280/270 @.050. Big change and bunch of torque differance about 70# gain in powerband. My thinking is while getting chassis checked out and shake down run tuning will be fun. With such huge change i tuning s about useless due to effect on converter and tire setup will change.

Guess question is. Other than fun(thats huge) will there be any gain in testing before can get new cam.Normally not big deal but with raised cam hemi and custom grind with 4/7 swap its not cheap piece.Heck can buy battery, starter and wiring for cost of it.

Front Engine Dragsters / Lite weight battery anyone using one
« on: April 13, 2015, 09:23:16 AM »
Found this thru another site and wondering if anyone here migh be using one and have opion on them.
http://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/antigravity-batteries-16-volt-vtx12-20/

Going to be using the used 16 volt turbo start I picked up last weekend for intial testing. But looking at a battery thats same power rating and 5 lbs. which is about 30 lbs dropped its hard not to give it serious considerations. 30 lbs at extra cost of  only 150 bucks makes it even more attractive.

Spud Miller's Cave / jet change for nitro
« on: February 27, 2015, 09:40:48 AM »
  Spud,

Running FI with 6.7 gpm DSR pump..036(4 outer cylindernozzles ).038( four inner cyliders)normally around 125 to 135 bypass. Looking at adding some fun juice after combo is tuned out. Max laod 30% and more like 20% if keep tuner under control.Seeing as thats me I know thats not easy.
How much jet change for 20 and 30% loads. Also timing adjustment suggestion running msd mag 20 and if need have dual drive and two mags, doubtful but do have them.34 to 38 with alky.

Oh yea 526 tfx HEMI 12,5:1. OLD ALKY COMBO WITH CAM CHANGE.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / High low valvebody
« on: February 03, 2015, 07:22:19 PM »
Getting ready to finish glide for FED.Valvebody and torque conveter are remaining itmes. Looking at two options. One is build vavle body using kit that comes with transbrake.Have done half dozen or so no issues,

Option 2 is high low valvebody.Allows me to leave with transbrake in either low or if track conditions caLL  for it I cam leav in highgear to help with bad track condition or need to slow car down for class. Does cost twice as much roughly 200 bucks more.It would basically be another tuning tool. Not sure how much it would come in handy, but buying once is cheaper than buying opt 1 then going to opt 2 later.

Wondering if anyhere have used high gear leave. If have used high low valvebody. Thoughts on them?
