PLEASE scroll down to the last post made as I will will likely be adding things to my wanted list. That is why I listed as looking for Miscellaneous Parts.
*WHEELS FOUND & BOUGHT*
Currently, I'm looking for a pair of 15 X 8" or 8.5" aluminum wheels with 4.5" Ford/Mopar bolt pattern. Either aluminum slots or 5-spokes like Torq-Thrust wheels is what I'd like to find.

Looking for 8 3/4" Mopar Spool for 30 Spline Axles. Also, good, re-useable Ring and Pinion for 8 3/4" Mopar for 741 3rd member with 29 spline pinion. Gear ratio not critical, but thinking anything from 3.23 to 4.11.

The 741 was the weakest of the three 8 3/4's The 742 is the top--straight shimable pinion--easy to set up--the 489 has thick pinion also but used crush sleeve for pinion bearing preload--you can buy a steel spacer to eliminate the crush sleeve but that is added expense--shoot for a 742 for the best --I have broken 741 pinions before
also gear selection is much better for 489 and 742 style units just a note there are two pinion splines fine and course yokes are interchangeable if splines are correct Keep your old pinion shims they can be reused and the new ones are usually India or china junk

By all means, I appreciate the info, tips and suggestion, dusterdave. The FED I'm gathering parts for will be powered by a very mild 283 SBC, from which I'm only expecting a realistic 250+/- HP. With that in mind I'm thinking the 741 pinion should live. I understand that time might bring changes that bring more HP but already have a lot of parts including a 29 spline pinion coupler so I'm going to cross my fingers and plan to use the 741 3rd member for now.

should be just fine! look for a used gear on Moparts.com it used to be The Mopar forum and has calmed down in recent years but many many Helpful mopar guys there t--if you post there you will find a gear for sure

I have found everything I posted about that's listed above but I am now in the market for a torque converter. Powerglide transmission, using a 17 spline input shaft (like normal PG). Thinking the range of 3,000 to 3,500 stall should be at least a decent starting point. I've looked into many brands of converters, and talked to several manufacturers, but thought I'd test the waters to see if there are any good, used converters available.

Lynn, I know you are using a mild SBC with a conservative tune up but I think you should not rule out converters with a higher stall - in the 4000 RPM region at least. You may find a lower range converter will cause the car to leave abruptly, pulling the wheels out of the beams.
Additionally, since you have a mild small cubic inch SBC a converter rated at 4000 RPM for a high strung SBC will likely have an actual stall speed significantly lower in your milder SBC. Good luck in your search.

You are probably right on with your suggestion. The most recent suggestion I got from a manufacturer, Boss Hog Converters, is a 4200-5000 stall converter, Part #34045. He mentioned that the stall is based on a 3680# car, so with the lighter car and low HP it would stall at significantly lower RPM. I think that converter is 9.6" diameter. I would LOVE to have a 8" converter to let the engine rev quicker, but the prices for those jumps quickly and I have to keep reminding myself this whole project is about enjoying a bit of drag racing, even though it's just not going to be, nor does it need to be, the quickest car in the field.

So, with that info....I guess I'm interested in a converter in the 4,000 and higher stall range. FWIW....I'm thinking my little 305 is going to run out of breath around 5500 RPM, and even that might be optimistic.

Once again, I got impatient and it seems that most used torque converters that I've found available for Powerglides are made for 350/400 input shaft. I'm using a 17 spline shaft so I ordered the Boss Hog 4200-5000 converter that they recommended based on my cars (somewhat estimated) specs. We'll see how it goes, I guess.

Much to my surprise I found the new converter on our front porch this morning. It must have come yesterday (Saturday) and we hardly ever use our front door. Wasn't expecting it until mid to later this week. One more piece of the puzzle is now in house!
