Altereds / repacking wheel bearings on spindle mount wheels

i'm repacking wheel bearings on my altered that has weld spindle mount wheels and M/W spindles;;what is correct way to adjust bearing preload on them?   way I do cars and trucks is I run spindle nut in as tight as can get then back nut off roughly 1/4 turn;;works on street cars and trailers but there don't run 200 mph either;;I won't to do correct on race car;

Took car out this weekend for testing;;on first pass the steering wheel[hand grips]was at 3 oclock and 9 oclock;;all good;got ready to make second pass and has was being towed up to staging lane i noticed that had to hold grips at 12 oclock and 6 oclock for car to go straight..made my pass and at shutdown i had to use all my force with both hands and help of knee pushing on sterring wheel to get it to turn off track onto return road;;shut down for rest of day.didn't feel safe to drive until find out why hand grip on steering wheel changed and why so hard to turn.what think happen or what could be wrong;;got car as a roller[new and never been finish but did sit in corner of sellers shop for 5 years before i got it and finish building if that matters or not.

Altereds / how do i know when i need to cook my oil

have done few start ups and couple passes on my car and been riching up my eng;;so thought should drain oil befor go to track again and check oil for alcohol;;new to this so how do i know if need to cook my oil or not?i drained yesterday and today i looked at it and still has the brad penn green color to it and doesn't look as anything floating on top..

any updates on this?i'm in process of building a taller cage on my car to give me morehead room;;too tight.unsafe for me to drive..anyway now be good time to remount wing the way they want them for 2015..

Wanted to buy / WTB;;;SLICKS

Have a fuel altered with a 540 bbc/12-71 blower/26.8%OD/4-10 gears/PG trans w;1;80plantieries/running alcohol;;
  My slicks i have on car has some cracks if them on sidewalls and concern on them being safe or not so before i go July 18th for T&T thinking maybe should buy new slicks or another good set that's not crack and hard;;have 34.5x17x16 Hoosers on car now;;haven't had a good pass to see if they hold or not..first outing had trans linkage issues;;
  what brand//compond should i look for in NEW OR USED??

on my fuel altered the steering is almost impossible to turn tires with steering wheel when hand pushing it around;;what i'm asking is do i put fluid in steering box?what kind and how know it's full?

TRANS FIXED I BELIEVE;;I'D ADJUSTED CABLE IN PARK;;WHEN I UNDONE SHIFT CABLE[WITH SHIFTER IN LOW GEAR  PG TRANS]I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TRANS ARM ANOTHER 1/4" FORWORD BEFORE I FELT AND HEARD IT GO INTO THE DETENT;;WE ADJUSTED CABLE WHERE I'M ABLE NOW TO PUT SHIFTER IN LOW AND CABLE UNHOOKED AND IT LINES UP PERFECT NOW WITH TRANS LINKAGE;;THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT;;

it's a pro tree trans brake;;had a racer call me today and he said he had about the same thing happen..his fix was to install a dioard from radio shack between trans soliard and trans button;said it fixed his;;going drop pan and inspect inside it and adjust shifter cable as suggested from everyone,he also said he now pushing trans brake button when he goes to easch position on shifter[so he backs up after his burn out and stops car;;presses TB button and pulls shifter back to N;;press TB button again and movews shifter to 2nd then presses TB button again to bring shifter to low..

Thanks guys for the replys;;going check cable adjustment today and drop pan..if i find shifter adjustment if off and i pull pan and don't find anything bad in pan then think i'd be good with just filling with fresh fluid and correck the cable adjustment OR think i hurt the clutches and need to tear down trans completly???

Start from beginning;;;last fall i did a start-up at a car show..had car on stands;;don't remember if was in "n" or "p" not sure but i started car..rap thottle a coupe times,,trans went into gear;;not sure if was in n or p but while running it fell into gear turning the rear tires and as it slowed down could hear noise in trans;;yesterday at my first time with car ran though all gears on warm up;; pits got to staging to do a pass;;had in high gear to to do burnout but car would:not move until real high rpm and barley move..drop into low gear and it moved great then;;did burnout ok in low;;pressed trans break and backed car up;;staged;put into low;;launch car and barely moving car again;;took off and shifted to high gear;;car still barelly rolling i taped on trans brake about half track then all sudden it took off;;what think would be wrong?be another month before can test car again and track 120 miles away;;

  have a 5" altered//CM chassis and rear diff./full floater rear//no front brakes//bbc iron block//aluminum heads/- blower/B&U hat/15 gal. fuel tank..pg trans;;
 what think my weight be??
