I have been bracket racing a back halved 1967 LeMans for many years.  Took a long time to get that car consistant.  Its a boat.  It ran 10 teens and was a blast to drive but I fell in love with FED's.  So I made the switch to a 180" FED.  Looking forward to starting over with getting the consistancy down.  Its in the finishing stages and I am getting the itch.  Cant wait for the snow to go!

Matt
Thank you for your responce.   Its the best advice I have had.  I am not opposed to putting a stroked crank in it.  Just to confirm, with a 3.25 or 3.48 crank I could still use my 5.7" rods with 350 piston?  Would I still be able to use the 64cc heads or should I try to mill them down to get closer to 58cc's?

Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Compression Question

Hi Matt.  I am brining this from the FED room.  It was suggested that I ask you.

I have been beating my brains out trying to get 13:1+ out of this motor with the 64cc heads.  I can get 12:1 pretty easily.  Do you think there will be a noticable difference using 12:1 vs. 13:1?  My goal is 500+ HP here is the rest of my set up.

302DZ Block +.030 (306ci)
2.02/1.60 iron fulie heads 64cc, ported
1178 forged crank turned 10/10
K1  H Beam rods.
Piston - whatever it takes to get the compression i need.
Cam - Undecided
Hilborn Mech Inj with 12" stacks

I really appreciate any feedback.  THank you.

Its a 302DZ block and fuelie heads.  The heads were ported by local builder/racer Sam Gianino. I am shooting for 500hp.  This is my first time using alcohol.  i have used racing gas for many years in door slammers.  I feel like i am starting all over with alcohol.
Thanks for the feedback!

Howdy all!  THis is my first post here, just and introduction.  I'm building a 180"FED.  I bought the chassis tacked from John Worm and I finished welded it.  Everything is done but the motor.  I have a 302 chevy that I want to use.  It is the motor may dad used in his D gasser in the late 60's.  I have a Hilborn injection unit that I want to use with alcohol.  I'm having a hard time finding a piston that will make 13:1 with 64cc heads.  I know, I could alot faster for less money using a 350 block.  Its sentimental.
Anyway, its great to see a forum like this one and i look forward to the tips and stories.
Brian.
