Roo Man's Room / Altered driveline shielding
« on: January 29, 2016, 06:10:01 PM »
I had this in Altered section not sure if it wasn't seen or on one was interested. So I thought I would try here too.
I'm trying to figure out just what is required for driveline covers on my Altered.
The link below should take you to the IHRA rulebook. Page 76 has the driveline requirement. I cant tell if it's saying I need to cover the entire driveshaft or just the u,joints.
The car is an Altered with suspension so the u,joints are required.
I'm not overly concerned about the shaft as it's pretty much overkill for my application, but still want to fit the rules and be safe.

Altereds / Front Tire Pressure.

Just curious what you are running for front tire pressure if you have a rigid front end on your Altered.

Spud Miller's Cave / Winter Storage
« on: October 25, 2015, 06:03:31 AM »
I'm pretty sure this has been covered but couldn't find it. After draining and drying all my FI stuff. What lube would you use for several months of storage?

Spud Miller's Cave / Check valves and vibration

Spud,
What are your thoughts about isolating your check valves from engine vibration. Is it necessary?

Front Engine Dragsters / Does anyone recognize this car?
« on: February 23, 2015, 03:09:26 AM »
I decided to get permission to post this picture of my car to see if anyone can come up with any history.
The photo is from a race at Cayuga Canada in the late 70's.
I also had to change my profile. The car is 10 years newer than I thought.

Spud Miller's Cave / Fuel Filter
« on: February 13, 2015, 05:22:54 PM »
Spud,
I could use a little filter education. This will be on an injected alcohol system with the tank up front. The filter will be the largest I can fit in between the tank and pump. I'm looking at filters with anything from a 40 micron to 100 micron screen. Is the 40 finer than the 100? Any thought as to what I should use. I know some don't like a filter before the pump but I bracket race and the fuel tank seems to be open all the time.
 Thanks BK

Spud Miller's Cave / Where to return fuel
« on: January 26, 2015, 07:25:48 PM »
If I run my return line on the top rail of my car it would need to rise up a couple inch's to go in the top of the tank. I'm thinking that's not good. It would still be lower than the pump and check valve.
I could put a bung in the back of the tank and keep the line pitched down all the way. The pump and check would be a few inch's above the top fuel level. But the return line would be below the fuel level most of the time.
The other choice would be to return it to the feed line to the pump.
Thoughts on the best scenario or other ideas.

Drag Racing / March Meet and Weather
« on: January 17, 2015, 12:54:06 AM »
Wife and I are considering going to the March Meet this year. I'm looking for some insite into what the weather tends to be like at that time of year. Also maybe where to or not to stay.

Wanted to buy / Blower for SBC
« on: September 29, 2014, 07:25:21 PM »
I'm thinking of putting a supercharger on my SBC. A 6-71 should do what I want. Doesn't have to be state of the art but I would like it stripped. Would also need an intake with water ports and a drive setup. I should be all set with a hat and fuel system. Send me PM if you have something to look at. Thanks.

Spud, Would you mind sharing info on how to identify what size an 80A pump is?

Spud Miller's Cave / Nozzle Location
« on: July 09, 2014, 02:37:52 PM »
I have an Enderle Bug Catcher on a tunnel ram for my small block. Right now the nozzles are in the runner just above the cylinder head. I was thinking about moving them up to the openings in the bottom of the hat and lowering the barrel valve to lower than the nozzles. That way I should be able to shut the engine off with the switch and not worry about all the fuel bleeding into the engine. The intake runners are probably a little big for the engine so fuel taking up runner space shouldn't be an issue. I just wasn't that sure about having the nozzles that far from the valve.

Altereds / Altered Weight
« on: May 03, 2014, 03:08:07 AM »
I'm trying to come up with an approx. weight to help pick a gear for my car. I have a Spitzer 4 link Altered. It looks like it's from the mid early 90's. Has a Fabricated rear housing, 4wheel brakes and will have an all iron small block. It looks like they made a lot of these cars and I was thinking someone or three has one that they have weighed.

Spud Miller's Cave / Main jet vs idle mixture
« on: April 29, 2014, 07:38:49 AM »
When I change my main jet I need to adjust my barrel valve the opposite to maintain idle mixture. Is that normal or am I missing something? I have a smallblock Chevy around 500hp. Hilborn O pump a set of your Enderle .028 flowed nozzles, Enderle cube barrel valve, 5lbs idle pressure, Bypass ends up around a Kinsler .085.

Altereds / Brakes
« on: April 03, 2014, 04:32:01 PM »
I have an Altered project and I'm just about ready to finish the brakes. It's a 4link 125" wheel base with funny car style wheels and tires up front. It has 4 wheel brakes but there isn't any lines yet. Trying to decide whether to hook all 4 to the foot pedal or hook rears to pedal and fronts to hand brake. I'm leaning towards first choice. Would like to here some pros and cons either way. I'll address master cylinder proportioning valve after I decide for sure what I'm doing.
