Thank you for the replies. Putting my wheelie bar back on did seem to help but did not resolve the issue. I have already moved the battery and will add a plate to mount more weights up front. The battery nets about 15 Lbs more than the weights I had up front but still think I need more.  I do have data logger.

Front Engine Dragsters / Front Tires Popping out of the Beams.
« on: April 22, 2021, 06:12:03 PM »
So my Front Engine Dragster had problems with wheel hop. I made a bunch of chassis changes, went through 5 different tire combinations and added more bars in the chassis an finally the got that issue resolved. But.... Now it pops the front tires out of the beams.

So I have moved the battery from the middle and put it up in the nose. I had some weight on the nose and moving the battery up there will have a net increase of about 15 Lbs on the nose and hope it helps. May have to add another weight plate up there. One other thing that is related is this dragster does not seem to steer good at the finish line under full power. I think front end is simply too light. Do not like adding weight but need to do something.

Anything else I can do to help keep it from popping out of the Beams?

I am going to lower the Two Step a few hundred and see if that helps. My car is now hooking up pretty good but I need to stop the popping out of beams.

I run Bradd Penn and Valvoline VR1 both with alcohol.

I have ran alcohol on low compression 9.4 to 1 motor and it really picked it up. Just run it on alcohol as is and if you want to add some Nitro you can. From my experience you can not run much Nitro with high compression.

As for raising compression, thinner head gaskets, smaller chamber heads or bigger dome pistons.

too many mags and no doubt too big of a pump

I do not know what is wrong with this thread. It says 5 (now 6) replies but I can only read first two.

In any case I was there and it was cool. some are complaining that it does not meet their idea of what an Altered is or should be or that it did not meet the rules. What Rules?

I was actually sitting on the wall right behind the starter in the middle on the first hit. Yes it was loud. I thought it was a good show and glad to see Richard Hartman run those numbers and Kebin Kinsley run the 304 to just edge him out for MPH.

I am currently running the MT 10.5 W x 33 with tubes and they work good on my 225" FED but my car has radiator, water pump, transmission cooler and full body. Runs 4.85 to 50.x @ 1730Lbs with me in it.

I was there it was cool, Richard Hartman ran the 4.92 and Kebin Kinsley ran the 304.xx to just barely take the top speed record. I was abe to get my heap in the winners circle there. So that was fun to race in front of maybe 8,000 people?

I run a very small radiator on both my cars. I have a Honda style one on my dragster and on the altered I have what looks like a transmission cooler with fan. I do that so I can control the temperature of my stuff.

I may run my stuff leaner than some people so it does not milk the oil as much and builds heat faster.

I think you would be good with any of the good brands, where I have seen people have problems is when they do not use enough oil.

Not sure what you are wanting to do and why? Is your motor hitting? Are you having problems hooking up? If you raise motor you also change center of gravity and weight transfer which may make it worse.
What is the engine angle?
You may be able to lower rear end only and mid plate to match, that gives you more ground clearance all way down chassis.
If you like the front tires can you change the front arms to raise car some there?
The ground clearance problem is one of the reasons I am going back to an altered.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: EGT tuning
« on: February 06, 2021, 04:58:27 PM »
I have ran EGT for years and in my opinion they are totally useless. Was told by several the probe needed to be exactly 1.5 inches from flange and must read 1050 in the 1/8 mile and 1100* in the 1/4 mile. On my car that was blubbering fat and would not run until it was 1350* to 1400*.

Now O2 readings were completely reliable and consistent.

I am not a big fan of really high compression I think the gains are rather minimal over 13 and the tuning window gets smaller. With a blower I would go with less compression like 11 or 12.  One of the reasons is I can tip the can more with lower compression if needed.

Bug catcher will flow all the air you can use and little easier to install simply because you do not have to fight with those two bolts inside the front. Both Bug and Bird will work fine and easy enough to tune. I have both and the hat is just an air valve your tuning is really done with the fuel.

I have learned a lot about tuning them and glad to help you if you have any questions.

That is a good article. A very low budget and simple motor that should perform good.
