Your Builds / Photo Gallery / Re: Intro...Geez I really miss drag racing
« on: December 10, 2016, 02:17:21 PM »
Cathy and I just got back from a dyno session. We're real happy with the power. We left the session with 80 hp more than we arrived with. Special thanks to Frank Iaconio and Frankie Jr for their help. They said that they have not seen a 23 degree head make that much power before and left us with a few ideas and things to tweak on. Here's a video of the last pull when we were a bit "over center" on the timing...

Chuck I just checked mine and they are a little off from your measurements . Not by much but different . My bolt pattern is a spread port 15 - 18 degree head .

Bill, Thanks for checking! I'll go with the pieces that I have. Will keep you posted.

Chuck

Bill,
Do your header flanges match these dimensions?
Thanks,
Chuck

I see you made some headers for the dyno ! If you need a set of collector headers I have a set of 2 to 2 1/8 step header with a merge collector that you could use ! Good Luck and make a lot of hp.

Hi Bill, I'm trying to figure out how to send you an attachment that shows my header flange dimensions. Thanks!

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: Milling OEM 351C Heads
« on: December 04, 2016, 05:22:52 AM »
Thank you Matt.  Yes, they would be 4V closed chamber. I'm assuming the .125" number is on the exhaust side of the head. I can see some advantages of doing that. Would the casting get too weak for a max effort head with that much material being removed? Do you know what a maximum but safe number would be for straight milling?

A question for you Ford guys...what would you recommend as a maximum (but safe) amount that a stock cast iron 351C 4V head could be milled to reduce the chamber volume? This would be for drag race only use. Thanks

Roo Man's Room / Re: Tire shake.
« on: November 15, 2016, 03:10:52 PM »
So...I have had two back operations (ruptured disks) and have limited movement of my left foot caused by tire shake from driving Top Alcohol Dragsters. I've temporarily lost vision, broken a chassis, broke a carbon fiber wing and blown a zoomie header pipe into the grandstands all due to tire shake.
I'd like to add one more thing to the great responses above. Running the fuel system too lean will cause shake too. Especially on blown cars with a lot of blower overdrive. On the starting line the boost can come up quicker than the fuel delivery and you go lean, hurt the motor and shake. Try to always run them slightly rich. Don't fall for that "lean and mean" crap. They run on fuel.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: turbo in fed
« on: October 23, 2016, 04:57:40 AM »
Looking at an older Heritage series rulebook...My understanding is that turbos are allowed in the NE1 (7.60) class. 7.0 Pro used to be reserved for blown alcohol or injected nitro but that may have changed.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Shortie Transmissions
« on: October 16, 2016, 05:37:06 AM »
On my B/ND car, overall weight is critical and it costs a lot of money in exotic materials to take weight out of these cars. The shortie trans can be made lighter than the full length version. Also, it is also somewhat easier to install/remove the shorter trans for converter changes and service because you have more room. On mine the shortie kit is magnesium with an aluminum output shaft, couplers are aluminum and drive shaft is titanium.

Wanted to buy / Re: WTB a Tuttle 225" roller. Anyone know of one for sale
« on: October 15, 2016, 01:19:21 PM »
consider that there were not that many built, Dale Taros has one( X Dave Sammons), Sanders Bro. have one( X Mike Joyce) , Shane Stewart has the old X  "ginz" car.  Mr, Boston is still back east( X Brendans??)

Frank Colaneri now owns the old "Mr Boston" car. It is presently called "The Racketeer", painted pearl white/candy green, stack injected on nitro. Like all of Frank's cars, it is absolutely gorgeous.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Re: shorty glide to std tail shaft
« on: August 28, 2016, 08:03:31 AM »
Using a shorty glide in a FED is completely acceptable. It gives you the ability to make the car lighter and it makes installation and removal from the car a bit easier. The two quickest Jr Fuel cars on the planet (Parks and Darcy) use a shorty kit. Mine has a shorty kit too.
