Front Engine Dragsters / Re: M-5 Wow!
« on: November 06, 2016, 05:53:06 PM »
This is probably better addressed by Spud at FIE but I'll throw in my experience here though I run a BBC. The static compression vs dynamic compression is affected by cam duration (intake closing point), cylinder heads, etc, how it breathes. 10% should not be an issue, at 33%+ things start changing. I have found that each 10% is worth about .1 seconds. I only have experience up to 42%/methanol not M-5, 33% was the same tuneup as methanol. I started a couple of steps fat and a couple degrees retarded on timing and ultimately came back up to my original tuneup for my combination. My suggestion is to read Spuds Nitro Notes on his web site, buy a hydrometer and talk to Spud . Also as you add more nitro you make more torque so you will have to deal with that maybe. If you start down this path you won't want to go back.

I use Zoi (I think that is how it's spelled). I use it on both sides of my lenses and no fogging.

My BBC FED had one on it when I bought it, ran it for a month and took it off. I believe it was off a VW Rabbit or Jetta. Still sitting in my shop.

Split one side and spread it out?

When spicing two tubes of the same diameter with an inside tube sleeve is there a minimum length for the inside tube, I found lots of aircraft info but don't know if that applies to dragsters?
Thanks

I run the same thing with the bushing in. No problems here.

Loose kick-down solenoid or solenoid is powered all the time ( stuck closed switch ). Is this a stock trans, trans brake, manual valve body? Don't remember if that was stated before.

38 degrees on 15:1 methanol 467 BBC and 38 degrees on 505 BBC on 30%. Never ran gas on a big block.

I have a similar combination only stock GM block and have run 2 different full sump pans and both were same issue, restrictors did nothing. My pans are 10 qt pans and 13 qts. of oil made it better but have never had bearing issues at any point. Is that shell an upper or lower?

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: what rear cam and gear with bbc
« on: January 02, 2016, 08:05:23 PM »
My combo is similar to yours but 9.8" deck with cheapo EQ iron heads but a splash of nitro with stack injector, 11.7:1 , 33 x 12 tire with 3.89 gears, glide with a TIGHT converter. I run only 1/4 mile so 1/8 mile gearing is probably different. Will probably be trying a 3.50 gear in the near future though. Did you specify your transmission option? Oh yes cam is 272/276 duration @ .050".

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Re: leaking sealat shift shaft
« on: December 15, 2015, 12:05:39 PM »
I considered that and checked the torque to shift in and out of park and gear to gear and had between 7 and 18 ft.lbs then cut a .040" o-ring groove in a shift shaft and held to 160 ft.lbs so I felt pretty safe . Probably won't work on a stock hollow shaft.

I have had the same leak issue before and machine a groove in the shaft for an o-ring and still keep the original shaft seal. Never had a leak since.
