I couldn't find a Hilborn cover so I bought a SBC Enderle timing cover for cam/pump drive. I have a 6 3/4 balancer and I don't think it's going to work. Looks like I'll need to buy the 5.80 balancer. Will I also need to get a pump drive extension (2"-3") to clear the waterman pump and the fuel valves? I want to mount the primary,hi-speed returns, fuel in and shutoff direct off the pump. Looks like its going to be a tight fit.
I don't have the pump yet. Should be here by next week.

I had the same problem, I bought a Romac balancer, they are all steel, SFI certified, and mine measures under 5.875. Mine is part #0206 for an internally balanced SBC. Hope this will be of help. Right around $150.00

I'm looking at the Romac 5.80 that alkydigger sells. They want 229.00 Where did you find it for 150.00? Did the pump hoses clear the balancer front face, or did you need a pump extension too? I'm using a Waterman 400 pump.

Thanks! I would have never thought of looking at amazon.

I love Mike at Alkydigger but he can be high on some items- Hey he probably has a lake house and I don't so----I actually got the same Romac with aluminum outer for a little more--that unit is top quality and works great I use a pump extension and with that small Romac it really fixes everything--
Remember when you get a pump extension or even swap pumps think about your cam end play--I check very carefully when doing a new build The pumps can vary and the extensions may gain or lose end play too much and you got trouble in Paradise Your shim pack may have to be adjusted would not want to wreck a block or pump so a timing set with a Torrington on the back comes in darn handy with these applications as little extra insurance

I had a pump extension, and I bought mine probably 5 years ago. The one on Amazon looks just like it and is probably more like the current price.

Thanks everyone. Balancer is on the way.

Romac balancer came today. Really nice product.

Looks just like mine, I think they are a very good product and I am more than happy with mine.

I have another question for you Enderle cover users. I have the 5.80 Romac balancer. Does someone make a timing pointer that will work or do I need to fab this part too? I've asked a few suppliers but got no answer. :(

Find top dead and build it, if you do not have the equipment I see some adjustable timing pointers for 6” and you may be able to modify it we are only talking a .100” difference

That's what I'm thinking too. I was hoping this would be a part I could buy. I've had to make just about everything else, so what's another part. :)

Went ahead and made one. It's light, and should work ok.

Looks great

One step closer to firing it up:)

I use a spacer on end of crank between the damper and the lower gear to space damer out IIRC about .200 thick range--worked perfect to get my Romac out far enough so it did not hit pump flange and that is with Enderle cover Cheap easy to make

I assume with that cover you are running a chain cam drive, not a belt drive.
Nice pointer,
Jon

I bought the .150 spacer from alkydigger. It was necessary to move the balancer out so it would clear at the oil seal. I did still have to trim the pump extension some to clear. A thicker spacer would have worked too. It's a done deal now. :)
