my throttle is a horse shoe shaped on it's side that you can lift with your toe and the cable is attached to the upper part close to the driver when depressed pulls in a normal fashion  and a positive stop so you don't over extend the travel hurting the carb or bellcrank

Just think of the butterfly as a big controlled air leak the wider they are open the more fuel is required the higher the rpm. Your rpm depends on ign timing at idle if you set the timing at 28* at full advance with a locked dist. is different than having option of advance curve where you can set your intial timing lower rpm will come down

I've encountered problems with low compression that was caused by miss matched parts. customer bought a 454 chevy froma "race shop" that never at the level it should have.He did a compression check after water got into the motor 90psi there was miss match of parts could have been, crank, rods or pistions  as the pistons didn't come to the top of the cylinder, I replaced the rods that worked with the crank stroke and pistons to get the proper deck height. the other was a 1947 Harley knucklehead el 61ci that a rebuilt was done and someone switch the cylinders with newer 74ci units, the 74 has a longer stroke resulting with pistons too low in cylinders had to have custom pistons made with a different compression height ( the distance from the top to the center of wrist pin,by JE

Pump gas period is inconsistent even some race gas if you can always gas at the same place it's better, and it's not just limited to gas diesel does too

you should take a look at this site https://quadrajetparts.com/ they have alot of varied parts that might be useful

a carb has a constant fuel pressure were as mech. fuel has increase in pressure and fuel as the rpm increases so a carb might go lean if the pump can't keep the bowl full and in a quadrajet it's the needle  seat that doesn't flow enough. quadrajets were used on motors as big as 455, 454 and 500's nicest street carb, for racing you have to have access to special parts maybe with the internet it would be easier

I like quadrajet,I've used them on drag and oval dirt and ice racers you will need the biggest needle and seat available the problem is the small bowl size have never used e85 you would have to play with the jets, needles and hangers  but i would try it   It's not the same a methanol

BK is right smaller bore = more pressure same as increasing pedal ratio you have to go with what works for you Altered's have limited foot space. I have a line-loc  so after braking when stageing I apply the line-loc and put my foot on a rest.

do what's natural pull. In one race  my throttle cable broke a yellow came out i got a pair of vise grips so I pull on the gas  when the race resumed I started last and was passing cars when the red came out i pulled on the plier instead of releaseing  almost ran over the car in front of me.

normally i heat the headers on the BBQ then spray usually black then reheat after the paints VHT doesn't always works the best BBQ comes out semi gloss and is easy to touch-up but smells until it's cured

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Injection Alky Vs. Carb Gas
« on: March 09, 2022, 07:37:47 AM »
we ran a holley alky carb added jet extensions to the back plate. After the event drained the tank added gas ran motor until it smoked shut it off before the next week-end drain gas fill with alky would start up easily on the gas, if stopped for a period of time drain lines filled pump with wd 30 removed carb sprayed it then stored upside down.changed oil every week-end used a belt driven pump controlled pressure (9psi)with a poppet valve on the return line worked well then changed to injection

Had a rad, fan and a aluminum water pump running a half speed  when the fed ran on gas switched to alky  removed the fan and rad ran a hose between the inlet and outlet  had to shut the motor down waiting in line did burn-out ran and returned no problem temp dropped going down the track. no problem making back to back runs
