I should have stated this was in the late sixties and early seventies and didn't have access to info available to-day it was mostly word of mouth and national dragster

I tried using stock style clutches and they would come-apart ended up using mcleod solid disc clutch( with no marcel(sp) but with a sprung hub with both a 3 finger and diaphragm pressure plate.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: compression and bore increase hp gain?
« on: November 08, 2023, 08:17:50 AM »
I think there are typos! need more info but from I understand maybe this is a na motor on alky, bigger bore normally helps head flow and higher compression if it a result of a bigger dome sometimes impedes flow and combustion, which might require dual plug heads depending on heads  if after market heads call tech and ask questions.
Gordon is right need more info on your set-up

do you have a manual bellhousing or scattershield OLDS  had unique blocks and extended over the clutch or torque convertor. you could mount any 3 speed and rotate so shifter levers are on the top for more foot clearance . i started to make an adapter to mount a 4l60e to  371 BECAUSE I didn't like the ones that are available, just too many projects.
GOOD LUCK!

i've found that it more in the type of fasteners than the gasket that lessens the chance of leakage, and flange thickness and support also help

denverflatheader is most likely right, bad pan design, oil level to close to the crankshaft,or lack of oil control and if oil drains back from the top end and you have a good windage tray and oil pick-up placement and design. I've had problems with pans in the past.

I,ve run various powerglides with modulator vacuum disconnected  never had a problem, always sharper up shifts when using stock valve body I've broken stock band and incurred wear on the drum(not flat . you only learn by doing!
