Title: Gear set for a powerglide
Post by: hemidakota on January 12, 2019, 06:59:42 PM
I am building a 200" FED that should be pretty light. It will be a all aluminum Chrysler wedge in the 1000 to 1100 HP range. It is 510 ci, 4.5" bore 4" stroke. Stack injected alky deal with 3.150 butterflies that has been a very custom deal. Dam Chrysler has no good parts. It has a 3.89 Gear with a 31x12x15 slick. I will be ordering or building a powerglide for it. What gear set would all of you recommend? I am leaning toward a 1.69 so it will not be violent on the launch. I could go 1.80 but after a lot of research and talking to people the taller gear might be a better choice. What does everyone think? Thanks for the input.

1.69 is route I went. I fell into deal on coan  Max duty aluminum carrier with 1.69 and short shaft, sometimes shyt happens and its not bad, rare but it happens.

I think you are on the right track going with 1.69. A 1.80 will be more prone to tire shake with that size tire.

I would also say the 1.69 is the way to go ! I started with a 1.80 in mine and caused a lot of problems ! Switched to the 1.69 and picked up ET !
